Today's Good News

12/06 – Elizabeth’s Joy

Luke 1:41–42 (NASB)
“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud voice, and said, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!’”

Devotional Thought:
The presence of Jesus brought joy even before His birth. Elizabeth’s Spirit-filled cry was a testimony that Christ is the source of blessing. Gratitude springs when our hearts leap at His presence.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude acknowledges that Christ brings joy wherever He is present.
  2. The Spirit testifies to Jesus, even in the womb.
  3. True blessing flows from the fruit of Mary’s womb—the Savior of the world.

Poem – “The Leap of Joy”
The greeting carried glory,
The unborn child responded,
Joy overflowed in the womb,
Blessing filled the room,
Christ was near.

The Spirit bore witness,
The promise was alive,
A shout rose in praise,
A mother rejoiced in faith,
Hope filled her heart.

Gratitude leaped within,
Joy broke through silence,
Blessing was declared,
The Savior was present,
Peace was given.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that even in the womb, Christ brought joy. Thank You that His presence fills ordinary rooms with extraordinary blessing.
Teach me to respond with gratitude when I sense Your nearness. May my heart leap with joy and my lips overflow with praise because Jesus is with me.

12/05 – The Annunciation to Joseph

Matthew 1:20–21 (NASB)
“But when he had thought this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son; and you shall name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.’”

Devotional Thought:
Joseph faced shame, fear, and confusion, yet God’s word to him was clear: do not be afraid. Gratitude springs when we see that Jesus’ birth was not only miraculous but purposeful—He came to save His people from their sins.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude steadies our hearts when fear tempts us to doubt God’s plan.
  2. The name Jesus anchors us in His saving work.
  3. God calls us to trust even when circumstances defy explanation.

Poem – “Do Not Be Afraid”
Joseph stood at the edge of fear,
But heaven spoke his name,
The Spirit’s work was sure,
The promise was certain,
The Savior would come.

The name was spoken again,
Jesus, the Lord who saves,
Sin would not have the last word,
Mercy would write the story,
Salvation would be born.

Gratitude rises in trust,
Fear bends to faith,
The plan of God is firm,
The purpose of Christ is clear,
He came to save.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Joseph’s obedience when fear could have led him away. Thank You that Jesus came with the clear mission to save His people from their sins.
Help me to trust Your purposes when they are beyond my understanding. May gratitude replace fear in my heart, and may I rest in the saving name of Jesus.

12/04 – The Annunciation to Mary

Luke 1:30–31 (NASB)
“And the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a Son, and you shall name Him Jesus.’”

Devotional Thought:
Mary, an unknown girl from Nazareth, received the world’s greatest announcement. God’s favor rests not on status but on surrender. Gratitude deepens when we realize that the Savior’s name, Jesus, means “the Lord saves.”

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude sees God’s favor as His grace, not our merit.
  2. The name Jesus declares both His mission and His mercy.
  3. God delights to use ordinary people for extraordinary purposes.

Poem – “The Name Jesus”
A young girl hears the word,
Do not be afraid,
Favor has found her life,
The Lord has chosen her,
Jesus will be born.

The name carries salvation,
The mission is redemption,
The plan is divine love,
The child is God’s gift,
The hope of the world.

Gratitude whispers His name,
Joy clings to His promise,
Faith rests in His mercy,
Love welcomes His coming,
The Savior is near.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that You chose Mary to bear Your Son, proving that You use the humble and ordinary. Thank You for the name Jesus, the Lord who saves.
Help me to respond with faith like Mary, trusting in Your favor and surrendering to Your will. May gratitude fill my heart each time I speak His holy name.

12/03 – The Light in the Darkness

Isaiah 9:6 (NASB)
“For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Devotional Thought:
A world in darkness was promised light through a Child, a Son, a King. The names of Jesus reveal His majesty: wisdom, power, eternity, peace. Gratitude stirs as we remember the Child in the manger is the God who reigns forever.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude rejoices that Jesus is both the Child born and the Son given.
  2. His names reveal His nature: He is both tender and mighty.
  3. Gratitude bows before the King whose shoulders carry all rule.

Poem – “The Names of the Child”
The Child rests in the straw,
But power rests on His shoulders,
Counsel flows from His lips,
Peace shines from His presence,
Eternity lives in His name.

Mighty God in weakness,
Prince of Peace in conflict,
Wonderful Counselor in confusion,
Eternal Father in care,
The Son given to us.

Gratitude whispers His names,
Joy rests in His reign,
Peace bows at His throne,
Hope sings in His birth,
The King is here.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are the Child born and the Son given. You are Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Teach me to treasure Your names, for each one reveals who You are for me. May gratitude fill me today as I worship the King born for us.

12/02 – The Birthplace of the King

Micah 5:2 (NASB)
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will come forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His times of coming forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.”

Devotional Thought:
Bethlehem was small, insignificant, overlooked—but chosen. God delights to bring greatness out of weakness. From Bethlehem comes the eternal King, proving that God’s plan does not rest on human importance but divine choice.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude remembers that God brings glory out of what the world calls small.
  2. Bethlehem reveals God’s sovereignty—He chooses what men would ignore.
  3. The eternal King entering history is the great mystery of grace.

Poem – “Bethlehem’s Gift”
A town too small for honor,
A place the world forgot,
Yet heaven marked its name,
And glory came in weakness,
The King was born there.

The eternal stepped into time,
The ancient entered the present,
The ruler of all creation,
Lay in a manger of straw,
Chosen place, chosen plan.

Gratitude rises from Bethlehem,
Insignificance becomes holy,
The small becomes eternal,
God writes His story there,
Hope is born in humility.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that You chose Bethlehem, a small and forgotten town, to be the birthplace of the eternal King. Your ways are not our ways.
Teach me to value the hidden, the humble, and the overlooked, for You often do Your greatest work there. May gratitude fill me that Christ, the Ancient of Days, was born in Bethlehem for me.

12/01 – The Promise of a Savior

Isaiah 7:14 (NASB)
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will name Him Immanuel.”

Devotional Thought:
God Himself gave the sign. Salvation is not man’s idea, but God’s initiative. In the virgin birth, heaven interrupts human history, bringing us the miracle of Immanuel—God with us. Gratitude starts where prophecy begins: God is faithful to His word.

Three Comments:

  1. The virgin birth proves that salvation is supernatural, not man-made.
  2. Immanuel means God’s presence, not from a distance, but among us.
  3. Prophecy fulfilled is proof that God keeps every promise.

Poem – “Immanuel”
God promised a sign of hope,
A child born beyond human power,
Heaven stepping into earth,
Holiness wrapped in flesh,
God with us forever.

The virgin carries the promise,
The womb holds the miracle,
The world waits in silence,
Prophecy stands unbroken,
Salvation draws near.

Immanuel is His name,
Presence is His gift,
Mercy comes to the humble,
Glory fills the earth,
God is here.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the promise of Immanuel, God with us. Thank You that salvation is Your plan and not ours. You stepped into our world when we could not reach up to Yours.
Teach me to rest in Your promises, for every word You speak stands true. May gratitude shape my heart today as I remember the miracle of the Savior’s birth.

11/30 – God’s Glory

Revelation 21:23 (NASB)
“And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.”

Devotional Thought:
The story of gratitude ends in glory. One day we will see the light of God’s presence and the Lamb Himself as the lamp. Gratitude prepares us for eternity.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude anticipates the day when faith becomes sight.
  2. The Lamb is the lamp—Christ Himself is our light.
  3. Gratitude lives today in the hope of eternal glory.

Poem – “The Glory of the Lamb”
The sun will fade in His presence,
The moon will bow to His light,
The Lamb is the lamp eternal,
The city shines with His glory,
The saints rejoice forever.

No night will darken the streets,
No shadow will fall on the gates,
The radiance of God will fill all,
The presence of Christ will remain,
The light will never dim.

Gratitude longs for that day,
Faith waits for His coming,
Hope rests in His promise,
Joy sings of His glory,
Peace lives in His reign.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that the end of all things is glory. Thank You that Christ will be the lamp of the feternal city.
Help me to live today with gratitude that looks forward to that day. May my heart be filled with longing for Your glory.

11/29 – God’s Promise

2 Corinthians 1:20 (NASB)
“For as many as the promises of God are, in Him they are yes; therefore through Him also is our Amen to the glory of God through us.”

Devotional Thought:
Every promise God makes finds its fulfillment in Christ. Gratitude strengthens when we cling to His promises, knowing they are certain and true.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude rests in promises kept in Christ.
  2. His Word is unchanging, His promises unbroken.
  3. Gratitude says Amen to God’s yes.

Poem – “Yes in Christ”
Every word is faithful,
Every promise is sure,
Christ seals the covenant,
Grace fulfills the pledge,
Glory belongs to God.

Hope rests in His assurance,
Faith clings to His word,
The soul stands secure,
The spirit rejoices in truth,
The heart sings Amen.

Gratitude answers with faith,
The promise shapes my life,
The Word guides my path,
The Lord keeps His vow,
The glory is His forever.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that every promise is yes in Christ. Thank You that Your Word never fails.
Help me to live in gratitude for the certainty of Your promises. May my life be a constant Amen to Your yes.

11/28 – God’s Kingdom

Matthew 6:33 (NASB)
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.”

Devotional Thought:
Gratitude flourishes when we put God’s kingdom first. His priorities become ours, and His provision follows where His reign is honored.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude values God’s kingdom over earthly gain.
  2. Seeking first keeps our hearts aligned with His will.
  3. Gratitude trusts His promise to provide.

Poem – “The First Pursuit”
The kingdom is not hidden,
It is found in seeking God,
Righteousness leads the way,
Provision follows the path,
Blessing rests on the faithful.

The world chases after much,
But the heart that seeks first is filled,
The Lord provides in abundance,
The soul rests in His care,
The spirit rejoices in His reign.

Gratitude seeks the eternal,
Faith embraces His rule,
Hope trusts His promise,
Peace rests in His provision,
Joy sings in His kingdom.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that Your kingdom is worth seeking above all else. Thank You that You provide for all who put You first.
Teach me to live with gratitude for Your reign. May my life today reflect the priorities of Your kingdom.

11/27 – God’s Goodness

Psalm 34:8 (NASB)
“Taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!”

Devotional Thought:
God’s goodness is not an idea but an experience. Gratitude awakens when we taste His kindness and take refuge in His care.

Three Comments:

  1. Gratitude grows from experiencing God, not merely knowing about Him.
  2. His goodness invites us to trust Him daily.
  3. Gratitude declares blessing in refuge.

Poem – “The Lord Is Good”
Goodness flows from His hand,
Mercy covers the soul,
Refuge is found in His presence,
Blessing rests on the trusting,
Joy springs from His care.

The world cannot compare,
The taste of His kindness is sweet,
The shelter of His love is safe,
The shadow of His wings is sure,
The heart rests in His goodness.

Gratitude testifies to His nature,
Faith proclaims His name,
Hope leans on His promise,
Peace rests in His love,
Joy sings of His goodness.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your goodness that I can taste and see. Thank You that blessing is found in trusting You.
Help me to live today in gratitude for Your kindness. May my life testify to the goodness of the Lord.
