Today's Good News

DECEMBER 18 – JOHN 1:4-5

12/18          John 1:4-5

4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

LIGHT

The Word created, bringing light, agreed upon within the Trinity.

This light was important.  Before the light there was only darkness.

Darkness cannot dispel light.  Light cannot be stopped.

Even a little light will shine brightly in the dark.

We need light.  We need it so that we can grow and flourish.

Light dispels our sadness.  It promotes our health.  Light brings His life.

Darkness lost the moment light was created.  Jesus is the light.  He is our life.

DEC. 17 – LUKE 1:37

12/17          Luke 1:37

37 For the word of God will never fail.

VICTORY

Before the foundation of all things, God declared victory.

He planned Creation, He designed it perfectly.  Then man in his freedom sinned.

God knew before man did that sin would destroy what He had created.

But God had a plan and it was Jesus.  He came to save us from our sin.  God uses broken people, but His plan is perfect.  He began with victory.

DEC. 16 – JOHN 1:29

12/16          John 1:29

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

HE IS

God said tell them I AM sent me.  Jesus came to the Roman world.

A middle eastern country.  Sheep were their major product.

They understood this lamb phrase.  Pure and unspotted.  Jesus came to die.

The perfect sacrifice, Jesus came to die for us to pay the price of our sin.

He was the sacrificial lamb.  HE died for our sin!

Raised from the dead He lives.  Now seated at the right hand of the Father,

He is interceding for us every moment of every day.

Turn to Jesus and He will turn to you.

DECEMBER 15 – ROMANS 12:10

12/15          Romans 12:10

10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other

CALLED

Everyone struggles with their call.  What has God called me to do?

God has called you to love Him with all your heart and your brother as yourself.

The obvious is what we so consistently overlook.

We want exotic, something with a side of martyrdom.

It is a cachet that modern Christians seek.

Too high-minded to do low level tasks, like loving each other.

Bend the knee.  Jesus died for you and every single person you know.

Not because any of us were good.  All have sinned.

God came in human form to pay a price we couldn’t pay.

To give us life eternal beginning right now.  Love one another.

DECEMBER 14 – PSALM 72:18

12/14          PSALM 72:18

18 Praise the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does such wonderful things.

WONDERFUL

His name is Wonderful, Mighty Savior, Creator.

Praise the Lord God. He came in the flesh to save us.

He personally took our sin upon Himself.  He paid a price we could not pay.

Rose from the dead by the power of God, the God man was victor at Calvary.

Jesus holds our victory.  He shares it for free.  Ask and you shall be free!

DEC. 13 – LUKE 3:4

12/13          LUKE 3:4

4 Isaiah had spoken of John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the LORD ’s coming! Clear the road for him

COMING

His visit announced.  The great king bringing God to us.

He walked straight to the cross to pay the price for our sin.

He bled and died.  Raised by the power of God.

He sits at God’s right hand now and will forever.

He created all things and soon He is coming back in judgment.  Seek Him while He may be found.  Jesus is Lord.

DEC. 12 – 2 PETER 3:18

12/12          2 PETER 3:18

18 Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.

KNOW

We know very little for sure.

Suppositions on air, tomorrow comes without our bidding,

Live now for tomorrow we die.

Then how should I live?  Is there more than I see?

Will we continue to believe in old ideas.

Fables telling of dragons, and kings, and foolish things.

No.  Rather we turn to Jesus.  He is Lord.

He came to save us from our sin.  God sent Him.

We know God because we know Jesus.  Father, Son and Holy Spirit one.

DECEMBER 11 – ISAIAH 40:1-5

12/11          ISAIAH 40:1-5

1 “Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.  2 “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone and her sins are pardoned. Yes, the LORD has punished her twice over for all her sins.”  3 Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting, “Clear the way through the wilderness for the LORD ! Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God!  4 Fill in the valleys, and level the mountains and hills. Straighten the curves, and smooth out the rough places.  5 Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together. The LORD has spoken!”

LISTEN

The Lord God speaks to us.  He speaks in a still, quiet voice.  If you haven’t heard HIM, listen.  Seek His face.  Repent.  Listen.  You will.

DECEMBER 10 – PSALM 46:10-11

12/10          PSALM 46:10-11

10 “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”  11 The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude

QUIETWe can be still without being quiet.  Be quiet and know the Lord.  He comes to us seeking to connect with us but too often we don’t listen for Him.  Be quiet and listen for the Lord.  He is with us.  Do what He says.  Be His hands and feet.

DECEMBER 9 – PSALM 80:17-19

12/09          PSALM 80:17-19

17Strengthen the man you love, the son of your choice. 18 Then we will never abandon you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more.  19 Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.

WE

We are in desperate need for a Savior and God sent His son, Jesus.  Jesus is Lord and Savior and He is alive seated at the right hand of the Father.  Put the Son in your heart.  Then you will learn to live in victory.
