Today's Good News

February 2000

2/1/00            Proverbs11:2
Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Love for God and love for sin cannot coexist.  Pride is foolishness and flies in the face of God.  We are so limited and pride declares that we are unlimited.   Pride is a lie.  The Lord will personally move against a person that is full of pride.

2/2/00            Proverbs 11:3
Good people are guided by their honesty; treacherous people are destroyed by their dishonesty.

Deceit and dishonesty create a life of destruction.  That kind of person sows seeds of discord and disharmony everywhere they go.  They will not miss their reward.  Their end will be self-destruction.  God’s Word is true.  His values never change.

2/3/00          Proverbs 11:4
Riches won’t help on the Day of Judgment, but right living is a safeguard against death.

There is a day coming when the Lord will pour out His wrath upon the evil.   On that day God will settle accounts with all people.  There is no amount of money that can buy a person’s way out of the judgment.  The only solution is the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2/4/00          Proverbs 11:6
The godliness of good people rescues them; the ambition of treacherous people traps them.

When we ask Christ to forgive us of our sin, come into our hearts and save us, we are saved.  We have become a member of the family of God.  Our response to God with the recognition that the Lord has provided a way has indeed provided a way for us.   Jesus rescues us from our sin against God and unites us with the Father.  We have bent the knee to victory.

2/5/00           Proverbs 11:12 -13
It is foolish to belittle a neighbor; a person with good sense remains silent.   A gossip goes around revealing secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.

Satan is the accuser of the brethren.  He is a scandalmonger and talebearer.  If I belittle my neighbor, gossip or lie, I am acting like Satan.  If I do this regularly, whose child am I?

2/6/00          Proverbs 11:14
Without wise leadership, a nation falls; with many counselors, there is safety.

Wealth is not always a blessing.  Sometimes wealth is a test.  Will I take of the widows and orphans?  Will I protect the innocent and helpless?  What will I do with my wealth?

2/7/00          Proverbs 11:17
Your own soul is nourished when you are kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel.

Peace comes to the peaceful.  Help is given to the helpful.  The daily actions we take and the way that we see others is simply a reflection of the way we see ourselves.  Be careful the evil you pursue for you will be the one that is overrun.

2/8/00          Proverbs 11:18-19
Evil people get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last. Godly people find life; evil people find death.

We will reap what we sow.  Our lives are made up of what we do.  If I follow my own ideas and yearnings, the result will be a wasted life.  If I seek God’s way and strive to know Him the result will be Godly life.

2/9/00          Proverbs 11:20
The LORD hates people with twisted hearts, but he delights in those who have integrity.

God’s all seeing eye is upon us.  How does the Lord evaluate your life?  Are the secret thoughts you think embarrassing?  Are the hidden things you do abominable to the Lord?  God knows what you are thinking and what you are doing.

2/10/00          Proverbs 11:24-25
It is possible to give freely and become more wealthy, but those who are stingy will lose everything. The generous prosper and are satisfied; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

God is no man’s debtor.  As you grow in Christ-likeness you will discover that you cannot out give God.  Generosity is the seed we sow for a prosperous life.

2/11/00          Proverbs 11:27
If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!

You do not have to stray far to destroy your life.  Evil is all around us.  My prayer at this stage of my life is “Lord don’t let me mess up now.”   Satan is seeking whom he might devour.

2/12/00          Proverbs 12:1
To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.

Growth doesn’t come easily.  Failure is often involved in significant steps of maturity.  The Lord uses others to help us regain our balance when we fail.  Listen carefully when a friend gives advice.  It may be from the Lord.

2/13/00          Proverbs 12:11
Hard work means prosperity; only fools idle away their time.

Work hard.  Love all.  Be careful.  Look both ways when you cross the street.  Simple edicts that if ignored can cause one great grief.  Our lives are built one day at a time.

2/14/00            Proverbs 12:15 -16
Fools think they need no advice, but the wise listen to others. A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.

When you get angry remember that you are acting like a fool.  Establish a process where you can regain your composure.  Be calm.  Think clearly.  Be wise.

2/15/00          Proverbs 12:18
Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.

God cares for you.  You can be confident that the Father will guide you with wisdom to help when a friend is hurting. Sometimes a comforting touch is all that is needed.  Other times you will need to pray carefully for what the Lord would have you say.  .

2/16/00          Proverbs 12:19
Truth stands the test of time; lies are soon exposed.

Lies carry the seeds of their own destruction.  What seems for the moment to be a safe refuge is a perilous trap.   Tell the truth.  Tell the truth first then you won’t have to face the music later.   The Word of the Lord is truth and always trustworthy.  As a servant of the Lord we also should be truthful.

2/17/00          Proverbs 12:20
Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil; joy fills hearts that are planning peace!

God always takes a long-range view.  He knows what the end will be.  Unless we commit ourselves to the things of God, we will suffer from a short-range view.  Think with eternity as your yardstick.

2/18/00          Proverbs 12: 22
The LORD hates those who don’t keep their word, but he delights in those who do.

I don’t want to be an enemy of the Lord.  When I fail to keep my word, I am hurting my friend but destroying myself.

2/19/00          Proverbs 12:23
Wise people don’t make a show of their knowledge, but fools broadcast their folly.

Loud talk is the label of a fool.  Cursing and big boasts are the trademark of one doomed to disappointment.  Wisdom is peaceful and gentle.  What’s that you were saying?

2/20/00               Gen 22:2
“Take your son, your only son – yes, Isaac, whom you love so much – and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will point out to you.”

You and you alone are responsible for your condition.  When you look at what you are doing today you can get a good idea of what tomorrow will be like.  Abraham’s journey to Moriah was the culmination of a long walk of obedience to the Lord.   His response was fashioned years before by his daily growing faith in the Father.

2/21/00               Gen 29:18
Since Jacob was in love with Rachel, he told her father, “I’ll work for you seven years if you’ll give me Rachel, your younger daughter, as my wife.”

Our most important goals and desires are worth working for.  Has the Lord put someone or something on your heart?  If He has, work for them.  If there is someone you have been praying for 5, 10, 15 or more years, keep at.   Never give up on them.  The Lord didn’t give up on you.

2/22/00              Proverbs 13:3
Those who control their tongue will have a long life; a quick retort can ruin everything.

Count to ten when you are tempted to respond in anger.  You never have to apologize for what you don’t say.

2/23/00              Deuteronomy 7:12
“If you listen to these regulations and obey them faithfully, the LORD your God will keep his covenant of unfailing love with you, as he solemnly promised your ancestors.

Read God’s Word.  You are responsible for the way you act.  Fortify your heart and your life with wisdom from God’s Word.  The hour of temptation arrives without warning.  Be prepared.

2/24/00               1Ki 8:23
He prayed, “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven or earth. You keep your promises and show unfailing love to all who obey you and are eager to do your will.

God has grafted us into His covenant family.  In Christ we have all of the blessings that the Lord has promised.   Rejoice in the Lord.  As His child you are blessed beyond comprehension.  Pray that the Lord will expand your understanding of His deep love for you.

2/25/00               1Chronicles 16:34
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

The more we think about what God has done, the more we can appreciate the miracles that He has worked in our own lives.  It is a miracle everyday when we wake up.  The breath of life is precious and beyond compare.  Thank the Lord today for all of the wonderful gifts He has given you.

2/26/00               Deuteronomy 10:12-13
And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? He requires you to fear him, to live according to his will, to love and worship him with all your heart and soul, and to obey the Lord’s commands and laws that I am giving you today for your own good.

Respect, follow, love, worship and obey the Lord.  When you do this you will be surrounded by His love and peace.  Life can be a lot simpler than we make it.  Trust the Lord.

2/27/00               Leviticus 19:18
“Never seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.

We need to see ourselves the way God sees us.  He sent His son to die that we might have life.  What greater act of love could there be?  What greater worth could we have?

2/28/00               Ps 6:4
Return, O LORD, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love.

People count with the Lord.  God wants us to think about each other the way He does.  When we review our wealth, we should remember that people are the assets of God’s portfolio.  What’s in your portfolio?

2/29/00               Ps 13:5
But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me.

Evil and suffering seem to go unchecked.  Sometimes we are tempted to think that the Lord is slow about responding.  God’s love does not fail.  Your faith is safe with Him.

1/01/00              Proverbs 1:7
Fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Only fools despise wisdom and discipline.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

People count.  We need to listen to others.  Wisdom and learning do not begin and end with us.  You may know a lot of what is written in books and be leading an empty life.  Listen.  The words you hear may be from the Lord.

1/02/00             Proverbs 1:8 -9
Listen to what your father teaches you. Don’t neglect your mother’s teaching. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and clothe you with honor.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Actions imbed themselves in our heart.  Our parents teach us by the way that they live.  Be careful what you despise.  Learn from those that love you.

1/03/99             Proverbs 1:10
My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them! Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Sin is fun for a season but makes our appetites our masters.   Be careful who you follow and what you do.   Bad choices and inattention let bad habits gain a strong control over our lives.  Sin is always deadly and is constantly seeking to be our master.

1/04/00 Proverbs 2:2-5
Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and understanding. Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Christ comes to those that seek Him. You and I must set aside the time and devotion in our daily life to be with the Lord. If we are too busy for God, we will seldom hear His voice. If we are too distracted by the world we will never develop a sense of the eternal. Choose it or lose it.

1/05/00 Proverbs 2:6-7

For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly. He is their shield, protecting those who walk with integrity. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Am I who I say I am? When I profess Christ as Lord and Savior of my life am I permitting Him to be Lord and Savior? God is not concerned with what we have. The Father is concerned about who we are. If I am the Lords, everything I say and do will be affected by Him. If I am controlled by me, then everything I say and do will be tainted by sin and failure.

1/06/00 Proverbs 2:11
Wise planning will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Do the next right thing. When this is the watchword of my life, God will be honored. If my life is focused on honoring the Lord, wisdom will be the result. Our relationship with the Father is not a mystery. We reap what we sow.

1/07/00 Proverbs 2:20-22
Follow the steps of good men instead, and stay on the paths of the righteous. For only the upright will live in the land, and those who have integrity will remain in it. But the wicked will be removed from the land, and the treacherous will be destroyed. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The seeds of destruction have been sown in our land. The fruit of Godless living is all around us. If you find yourself overwhelmed by life, look at the way you are living. Are you following the god of this world, Satan or are you following the Lord of All, Jesus Christ. You choose. Be careful that you don’t lose by making the wrong choice.

1/08/00 Proverbs 3:3 -4
Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you! Wear them like a necklace; write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will gain a good reputation. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Loyalty and kindness both involve actions as well as attitudes. When we are loyal we act responsibly. When we are kind, we insure justice for the powerless. Our actions are a measure of the strength of our heart. A heart that is strong in the Lord deals with others in a Godly manner. People count.

1/09/001 Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Go to God for good decisions. Don’t think that you won’t like what the Lord says. He is interested in your best good. Decisions made without the Lord’s involvement exclude God from your life.

1/10/00 Proverbs 3:7-8
Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn your back on evil. Then you will gain renewed health and vitality. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We feel eternal and live with a deep seated awareness of our frailty. We must learn to lean on the wisdom of God. No matter what the current situation looks like we can trust the Lord. He deals with us with loving kindness and understanding. He knows what is best for us. He will not direct us to do anything that would destroy our future.

1/11/00 Proverbs 3:9-10
Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land produces. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with the finest wine. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

When are you the most alert? Mark out time for God then. What do you do that is superb? Invite God to use that gift as He sees fit. You are what God created you to be. You have what God gives you. Give the best you have to Him.

1/12/00             Proverbs 3:11-12
My child, don’t ignore it when the LORD disciplines you, and don’t be discouraged when he corrects you. For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We are not here by ourselves.  Our Father in heaven is carefully scrutinizing our coming in and going out.  We are responsible for what we say and what we do with our hands and feet.  The Lord will quickly discipline us when we stray from the right way.  We need to be quick to recognize Fatherly discipline.  It will keep us from a multitude of sin.

1/13/00             Proverbs 3:21-26
My child, don’t lose sight of good planning and insight. Hang on to them, for they fill you with life and bring you honor and respect. They keep you safe on your way and keep your feet from stumbling. You can lie down without fear and enjoy pleasant dreams.  You need not be afraid of disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, for the LORD is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Pray hard, and work hard.  Our close relationship with the Father should spur us to be faithful, diligent servants.  Laziness is ungodly.  The Father encourages careful living.

1/14/00             Proverbs 3:27
Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Be careful how you live.  Think about the needs of those around you.  Be as quick to give good as you are to receive good.

1/15/00             Proverbs 3:31-32
Do not envy violent people; don’t copy their ways. Such wicked people are an abomination to the LORD, but he offers his friendship to the godly. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Peace is a gift from God.  When God is involved, peace reigns.  When we are in charge, chaos is the motif.  A warring spirit is a sure sign that we need to get before the Father and pray for peace in our heart.

1/16/00             Proverbs 3:34
The LORD mocks at mockers, but he shows favor to the humble. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Humility is a difficult trait for hardhearted, judgmental mankind to develop.  We recognize our limitations but live as if we  were all knowing.   We pontificate in the most outrageous ways, listing outcomes that seldom come true and fearing events that will never happen.   Our lives should be governed with the realization of “as the Lord wills.”  Humility is a trait that is developed by focusing our lives on God.  The almighty, loving, all powerful Father who knows all things and can do all things.  He is in control.   I will never be in charge.

1/17/00             Proverbs 4:23 –27
Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do. Avoid all perverse talk; stay far from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; then stick to the path and stay safe. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You are responsible for what your hands do.  Where your feet walk is under your control.  Guard your mouth for your sharp wit is a veritable cancer that can destroy others.  Our job is to connect our relationship with the Father so that it controls our actions.

1/18/00             Proverbs 5:21-23
For the LORD sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his incredible folly.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Evil habits are hard to break.  Only by the power of God can we change our lives from darkness to light.  Pray hard.  Pay attention to how you act.  God knows everything you do.  You can fool me but you can’t fool the Father.

1/19/00             Proverbs 6:6-8
Take a lesson from the ants.  Learn from their ways and be wise! Even though they have no prince, governor, or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Prepare for each day. Evil is active and seeking you.  Put on the full armor of God and be busy about the Lord’s work.  What is His work you say?  Caring for His creation.  You are a co-laborer together with the Lord.

1/20/00             Proverbs 6:16-19
There are six things the LORD hates – no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord among brothers.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

This is straightforward.  Are you practicing any of these things?  If you are, you are sinning and the Lord hates it.  Stop it.  Do better.

1/21/00             Proverbs 6:20-23
My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s teaching. Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck.   Wherever you walk, their counsel can lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up in the morning, they will advise you. For these commands and this teaching are a lamp to light the way ahead of you. The correction of discipline is the way to life.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Do not turn a deaf ear to good advice.  Life is hard enough when we do the right things.  Be careful what you do and remember what your parents say.   Our heavenly parent is very concerned about us everyday.  Listen.

1/22/00             Proverbs 6:30-33
Excuses might be found for a thief who steals because he is starving. But if he is caught, he will be fined seven times as much as he stole, even if it means selling everything in his house to pay it back. But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys his own soul. Wounds and constant disgrace are his lot. His shame will never be erased. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God’s Word gives us clear direction for living.  When we violate His law, we will reap the consequences of our sin.  Be sure that your sin will find you out.  God’s law seeks to protect us from stupidity and foolishness.

1/23/00             Proverbs 9:7-8
Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get a smart retort. Anyone who rebukes the wicked will get hurt. So don’t bother rebuking mockers; they will only hate you. But the wise, when rebuked, will love you all the more.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

I am too quick with a retort when criticized.  Sometimes I can profit from insightful criticism.  I need to listen and think when others offer their view.   The Lord will give me insight as to the appropriate response if I will ask Him.  Sometimes, a response is not necessary.

1/24/00             Proverbs 9:10-12
Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding. Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Wisdom means “practical discernment.”  When we are wise we are able to make good decisions in difficult circumstances.  Whenever I need to make a good decision I can ask the Father for His direction to guide my actions.

1/25/00             Proverbs 10:2
Ill-gotten gain has no lasting value, but right living can save your life.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Feelings get us into trouble.  They are transitory in nature and are always changing.  However, the Lord gives us principles to live by.  They help us to establish long-range behavior that is based on our best good and not subject to the whim of the moment.  Right living creates a foundation for eternal happiness.

1/26/00             Proverbs 10:3
The LORD will not let the godly starve to death, but he refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The life of the person who seeks God is better than the life of the person that is controlled by wickedness.  You have one life to live.  Choose whom you follow carefully.

1/27/00             Proverbs 10:5
A wise youth works hard all summer; a youth who sleeps away the hour of opportunity brings shame.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

A wasted life is built upon wasted minutes.  Be attentive to what you are doing with your life.  Watching TV three or four hours every day will result in a life that is easily overrun in the time of trial and tribulation.  Be careful how you spend your minutes.

1/28/00             Proverbs 10:12
Hatred stirs up quarrels, but love covers all offenses.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Forgive, listen, care, help, and understand.  You are a representative of the Lord.  Deal with others the way the Lord deals with you.

1/29/00             Proverbs 10:16
The earnings of the godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money on sin.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Look at how you spend your money.  Are you investing in eternal things?  Have you thought through your use of the resources that the Lord has given you?  We can make a difference in our life by how we spend our money.

1/30/00             Proverbs 10:17
People who accept correction are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore it will lead others astray. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We can acquire wisdom by asking the Lord.  Sometimes that wisdom is in the form of another person sent to help us grow.  Listen carefully to those Godly mentors in your life and it will save you much pain and disappointment.

1/31/00            Proverbs 11:1
The LORD hates cheating, but he delights in honesty.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

“The Lord hates” is a strong statement.  I must submit myself to His scrutiny and understand that when I cheat anyone I am doing something that God hates.  That sends cold chills up my spine.

December 1999

December 1 John 1: 1-5
In the beginning, the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn’t make. Life itself was in him, and this life gives light to everyone. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You exist because God made you. The creative Christ was at work before the foundations of the world exercising His sovereignty by creating you. You are a work of the master. Your life is of great value to the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. You are not alone. You do not have to stumble through the darkness of life. Jesus offers you the light you need for a meaningful, abundant life. Choose Christ.

December 2 John 1:10-13
But although the world was made through him, the world didn’t recognize him when he came. Even in his own land and among his own people, he was not accepted. But to all, who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn! This is not a physical rebirth resulting from human passion or plan—this rebirth comes from God. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Our spiritual rebirth comes by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a new birth from within. We are given a new heart that changes the way we act. It also puts us in the Family of God. We are now His children and as such are under his constant care. God cares for you.

December 3 John 1:14
So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus is one of a kind. In Christ we see God. Jesus acts like the Father. Jesus did what the Father instructed Him to do. When we pattern our lives after Jesus, we will act like God acts.

December 4 John 1:16-17
We have all benefited from the rich blessings he brought to us—one gracious blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Moses delivered cold stone tablets, the law. Fully human, fully divine, Christ was the fulfillment of the law in the flesh. The presence and nature of God was revealed in the humanity of Jesus. His divine love was expressed in the divinity of Jesus. Christ is God’s everything.

December 5 John 1:18
No one has ever seen God. But his only Son, who himself is God, is near to the Father’s heart; he has told us about him. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

In Christ, we could see and touch the Father. No one else could do this for us. The hidden is revealed. No longer do myths or fables bind us, but now we can see God as He is. Jesus is Lord.

December 6 Hebrews 1:1-2
Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. But now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he made the universe and everything in it. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God has spoken to us through Christ. No longer does He use visions, prophecies, dreams or other means. He reveals Himself in Jesus and speaks to us through the risen Lord Jesus Christ. God loves you. He died for you. He lives for you. You are safe in His care. He will not forget you.

December 7 Hebrews 1:3
The Son reflects God’s own glory, and everything about him represents God exactly. He sustains the universe by the mighty power of his command. After he died to cleanse us from the stain of sin, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God of heaven. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus is God. That is why folks get upset when we talk about the Christ. He is the God who spoke in the Old Testament. He is the God who instituted the Church, which is His bride. Jesus is the full revelation of God. He is the only way to the Father. Christ is the complete expression of God in human form.

December 8 Colossians 1: 15-17
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation. Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we see and the things we can’t see—kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Christ is the glue that makes it all work. Those that ignore Him benefit from Him. Those that serve Him benefit because of Him. Then, one day every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord of all. Praise the Lord.

December 9 John 14:6
Jesus told him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one can come to the Father except through Me.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The eternal has offered direction to the creation. This is not a cafeteria type question with a multitude of options. It is a serious, significant directive offered to you and me by the Creator. Are we interested?

December 10 Deuteronomy 18:15
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like [Moses] from among you, and you must listen to that prophet. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus Christ came to earth as a part of the eternal plan of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Jesus has always been the way that the Lord God planned to provide for you and me. Maybe sometimes we forget that the Lord has always known who we are and where we will be. This is Mike Clay reminding you that Jesus loves you.

December 11 Isaiah 7:14
All right then, the Lord himself will choose the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and call him name “Immanuel”—”God is with us.”  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

A virgin named Mary conceived and bore a son, Immanuel, the Christ. Isaiah foretold his coming. He came.

December 12 Galatians 4:4-5
But when the right time came, God sent his son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We have all the rights of a biological child in the family of God. We share with Jesus all of the resources made available by the Father to His children. You can ask the Father for anything you need and be confident that He will hear and He will provide.

December 13 Matthew 2:3-6
Herod was deeply disturbed by their question, as was all of Jerusalem. He called a meeting of the leading priests and teachers of religious law. “Where did the prophets say the Messiah would be born?” he asked them.
“In Bethlehem,” they said, “for this is what the prophet wrote: ‘O Bethlehem of Judah, you are not just a lowly village in Judah, for a ruler will come from you, who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

In Bethlehem Christ came as one with no power and yet He had all the power of God. He willingly surrendered the visible to the invisible. We have the same access to the Father. We can have all the power we need for daily living. Don’t be mislead by appearances. The things you see are passing away.

December 14 Luke 1:26-28
God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”

The Lord is with you. Live your life so that your light might shine. You have not been forgotten.

December 15 Luke 1:30-33
“Don’t be frightened, Mary,” the angel told her, “for God has decided to bless you! You will become pregnant and have a son, and you are to name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; His Kingdom will never end!” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

December 16 Luke 1:46-49
And Mary responded: “Oh, how I praise the Lord. How I rejoice in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and now generation after generation will call be blessed. For he, the Mighty One, is holy and he has done great things for me.”  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Lord is a champion of the poor, the despised and the oppressed. The Father is concerned about the plight of the down and out. He charges us to care for those that are in need. Next time you see a poor person, remember that you are looking at someone that the Lord is thinking about at that very moment.

December 17 Matthew 1:18-21
Now this is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her fiance’, being a just man, decided to break off the engagement quietly, so as not to disgrace her publicly. As he considered this, he fell asleep, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said,” do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

What would your response have been? Right. Faith believes that God is active in our lives. We have a Father that cares for our best good. We have a sovereign that is not surprised at any event that happens in our lives. He knows the depth of our sin and has forgiven all of it. Our response should be, yes Lord I believe, help my unbelief.

December 18 Luke 1:68-70
Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited his people and redeemed them. He has sent us a mighty Savior from the royal line of his servant David, just as he promised through his holy prophets long ago. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Before a watching world the promises of God came to life. He did it then and He will do it now. Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and it will be opened unto you.

December 19 Luke 1:76-79
And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord. You will tell his people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins. Because of God’s tender mercy, the light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God chooses to work through frail humans. Never underestimate what God can do. He made us and He can work through us. Be about the Father’s work.

December 20 Luke 2:1-5
NOW in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The pagan world thinks it is in charge. God’s activity is always in charge. When you become a part of the family of God, you become a part of God’s activity in the world. He knows what you can and cannot do. God will use you.

December 21 Luke2:1-7
At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria. All returned to their own towns to register for the census. And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fiancee, who was obviously pregnant by this time.

And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God stepped into our world like the poorest among us. He lived a perfect life and died for us so that we would no longer be poor. In Christ we are rich. In Christ we are victorious. Have a joyous time celebrating the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ brings courage to fearful lives. We can trust Him and put our complete dependence upon Him

December 22 Luke 2:8-11
That night some shepherds were in the fields outside of the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terribly frightened, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news of great joy for everyone! The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the City of David!” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Too often we think of happiness as an emotion. Emotions are easily changed. The coming of the Messiah assures our happiness. It is no longer an emotion. In Christ our happiness is a guarantee. You can bet your life on it.

December 23 Luke 2:11-14
“The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the City of David. And this is how you will recognize him: You will find a baby lying in a manger, wrapped snugly in strips of cloth!” Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God: “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to all whom God favors.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Peace is here. Christ is our peace. When we go to others, we are emissaries of peace. Be a peacemaker. When you serve Christ you will be.

December 24 Luke 2:16-19
The shepherds ran to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in a manger. Then the shepherd told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, but Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and thought about them often. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We serve an astonishing God. The Lord has annointed us to serve Him. He didn’t choose angels, or super-humans, He choose us. Just so that we would know we could do it, He came in the form of a human. He came as a commoner in a family of common folk. He demonstrated the power of God by His daily surrender. He lived a perfect life by using the same resources that we have available to us. We matter to God. His plan to use us to share the Gospel doesn’t have a backup plan.

December 25 Isaiah 9:6
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His ever expanding, peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the Lord Almighty will guarantee this! Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

He is our hope. He delivers us from darkness to light. No longer slaves to sin, we are free in Christ. Jesus is God’s everything.

December 26 Luke 2:28-32
Simeon took the child in his arms and praised God, saying: ” Lord, now I can die in peace! As you promised me, I have seen the Savior you have given to all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel.”   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Can you see what I see? Christ is born, crucified and risen. He is alive. His life changes my life. No longer enslaved to sin. Now I am free to be what He created me to be. Bless the name of the Lord.

December 27 Isaiah 11: 1-5
Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot—yes, a new branch bearing the fruit from the old root. And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will never judge by appearance, false evidence, or hearsay. He will defend the poor and the exploited. He will rule against the wicked and destroy them with the breath of his mouth. He will be clothed with fairness and truth. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We cry for justice but do we give it? We want our needs met but are we concerned about meeting the needs of the poor and exploited? Jesus meets needs. When we come to Christ we learn to care for others. Growing in Christ-likeness results in being concerned about the needs of those around us. God loves people most of all.

December 28 Matthew 11:28

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Are you loaded down with sin? Is depression or oppression taking over your life? Jesus forgives sin. Jesus frees us from bondage. Start where you are. Ask Christ to make you whole. The journey begins and lasts for an eternity. You will never be an outsider again.

December 29 John 16:33
(Jesus said), “I have told you all of this so that you might have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You will face many problems but never alone. You will lose many battles but the war is already won. Jesus brings victory to every life. Jesus makes each one of us count.

December 30 Matthew 24:4-6, 13-14
Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone mislead you. For many will come in my name saying, ‘I am the Messiah.” They will lead many astray. And wars will break out near and far, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must come, but the end won’t follow immediately…. Those who endure to the end will be saved. And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the world, so that all nations will hear it; and then, finally, the end will come.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus is coming back. If you are here when He does He will not forget you. Put away your worry, you can trust the Lord.

December 31 Matthew 24: 45-47
Who is a faithful, sensible servant, to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his household and feeding his family? If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I assure you, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News. Take care of the Lord’s people. Do the work that Christ has assigned you. None of us know what Y2K will do. But, we know what God can do.

November 1999

11/1/99      Psalm 28:1
O Lord, you are my rock of safety. Please help me; don’t refuse to answer me. For if you are silent, I might as well give up and die. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Lord wants to be part of everything that we do. When God is missing from the activities of our lives, death reigns. When the Lord is present the result is life. Without the Lord, our life is worthless.

11/2/99      Psalm 30:1
I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You need help. Fate, hate, attacks from the evil one, poor childhood, mistakes, foolishness, carelessness, and many more enemies are swirling around you. There are enemies without number each seeking to sidetrack our life. The Lord rescues us from our enemies. He equips us to live life abundantly. Call upon the name of the Jesus.

11/3/99      Psalm 31:1
O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be put to shame. Rescue me, for you always do what is right. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is righteous and loving and always wants to deliver His children. He is a loving Father that is without compare. Every time we fall into trouble, even when it is our own fault for the umpteenth time, the Lord will rescue us.

11/4/99      Psalm 32:1-2
Oh, what joy for those whose rebellion is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Forgiveness is a part of God’s nature. When we forgive others we are acting like God. In Christ we have forgiveness for our sin yesterday, today and forever. The Lord knows us completely and seeks to bring us close to Him with His forgiveness.

11/5/99      Psalm 33:4-5
For the word of the Lord holds true, and everything he does is worthy of our trust. He loves whatever is just and good, and his unfailing love fills the earth. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We have a trustworthy, truthful, unchangeable God. He is never caught by surprise. All that He does is right. Do you have problems? The Lord solves problems. Go to Him, ask His help, listen for His reply and wait. God is good, all the time.

11/6/99      Psalm 34: 4-5
I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me, freeing me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Word of God contains more than 7,000 promises for His children. Many of those promises are blessings. Most of those blessings require our active participation. Active participation includes our believing what the Lord has said and acting in confidence upon His revealed truth. Confidence destroys fear.

11/7/99      Psalm 34:15
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Doing right is a choice. We who are alive in Christ are equipped to make right choices. Do not let Satan convince you that you aren’t strong enough, smart enough or loved enough to do the right thing. When we do the right thing the Lord is at our side. Walk in the light.

11/8/99         Psalm 35: 9-10
Then I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be glad because he rescues me. I will praise him from the bottom of my heart: “Lord, who can compare with you? Who else rescues the weak and helpless from the strong? Who else protects the poor and needy from those who want to rob them? Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Our attitude is our choice. Will I believe the Lord and rejoice in His provision? When we face impossible situations and monumental problems, it is always our option to rejoice. The Lord will deliver, on time, in the right way. What a Savior, what a Lord, rejoice!

11/09/99     Psalm 36: 7-9
How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your rivers of delight. For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus said that He would give us living water. This living water enables life in the midst of catastrophe. We are not limited by our life but protected by God’s love. Our lives are grand exhibitions of the intervention of the Lord and His forgiveness of our sin. Praise God that we now have light to live by.

11/10/99     Psalm 37:3-4
Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God wants us to trust Him. He does not force His will upon us. We choose to spend time with the Lord. When we get to know Him better, we learn the richness of His love. We experience the joy of coming into His presence. There is wonderful blessing when we come knowledgeably into the presence of the Father.

11/11/99     Psalm 37: 18-19
Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent, and they will receive a reward that lasts forever. They will survive through hard times; even in famine they will have more than enough. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

A relationship with the Lord is a moment by moment journey. It takes our time to develop this relationship. When hard times come, those moments we have invested will payoff with the power to stand in the hour of desperation. You will survive because you are a child of God and know Him and the power of His resurrection.

11/12/99     Psalm 39: 6-7
We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth for someone else to spend. And so, O Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

People spend a lot of time developing their security in a life that will last only a short while. If you are wise, you will invest time in your eternal destination. Get to know the Lord. Let Him have your time and interest. Your life will be over too soon.

11/13/99     Psalm 40: 1-3
I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be astounded. They will put their trust in the Lord. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus Christ offers salvation from death to life for each one of us. There is no other name under heaven by which we may be saved. Jesus is the only way to the Father. He is the only source for life. When you believe that Jesus is Lord and ask Him to forgive your sin and come into your heart and save you, He will. You will have life. You will have peace with God.

11/14/99     Psalm 42:8
Through each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

When I walk with the Lord I am constantly thinking about Him. Lord, I praise you for your wonderful gifts to me. Thank you for helping me to live my life in the right way. As I develop this Godward focus in my heart each day, at night my heart will burst forth in song. In the midst of despair, the Lord was there. When trouble came or heartache raged the Father reigned. He never left me alone. He was with me in victory and defeat. Oh the joy of the Father’s love. Sing His song oh heart of joy.

11/15/99     Psalm 43:5
Why am I discouraged? Why so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my savior and my God! Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

In this life, discouragement and sadness are always waiting to pounce upon us. The Lord equips us to survive in the face of these insurmountable obstacles. There is joy with the Lord.

11/16/99     Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Even if the world ends you are safe with the Lord. You are not alone and your life belongs to Him. Be comforted by His promise. The Lord is God and there is not other. He loves you and will provide an eternal relationship for you.

11/17/99     Psalm 46:11
The Lord Almighty is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Life is a battle. We need the Lord. He is able to save us in the face of the daily battle that we face. Life is not for the wicked, for they will perish in their trespasses and sins. The victory has been won. In Jesus we are His and He is ours.

11/18/99     Psalm 49:15
But as for me, God will redeem my life. He will snatch me from the power of death.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

By faith we are saved. The power of God saves us. It is His free gift to us. Not by works or might but by the blessed salvation bought by His life. The blood of Christ paid the price.

11/19/99     Psalm 50:15
Trust me in your times of trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is trustworthy. It is His nature. We can live our lives knowing that He cares for us. He loves us with a deep and abiding concern for our daily well being. The Lord is good, all the time.

11/20/99     Psalm 50:23
Giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Gratitude is an attitude that we can cultivate. The Lord encourages us to see His activity in our lives and to express our gratitude in word and deed. How we see our selves and God’s plan for our lives is important. You are valuable and God’s plan for your life is a worthy plan. Be encouraged. Bless the Lord and thank Him for all that He does for you.

11/21/99     Psalm 51:10-12
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Father, cleanse us from our selfish hearts. Help us to know the right way to go and walk therein. Encourage us to read your Word and be obedient in our daily lives. And Father when we forget this or don’t live this way, remember whose we are and gently discipline us so that we will return to your presence.

11/22/99      Psalm 55: 17-19
Morning, noon and night I plead aloud in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice. He rescues me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, even though many still oppose me. God, who is king forever, will hear me and will humble them. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Our enemies are of our own creation. They are our sin, our bad habits, our lack of gratitude and a host of other things that we have permitted to stand against us because we are such great sinners. All we can do when our enemies attack us is cry out to the Lord and He will save us.

11/23/99     Psalm 56: 3-4
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. O God, I praise your word. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

People can inflict bodily harm against us. They can even kill us. But they cannot harm our souls or our future. We belong to the Lord. We are his and He is ours. We will never be separated from Him. Therefore you should fear God who controls this life and the life to come.

11/24/99     Psalm 57:1
Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until this violent storm is past. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Life is sometimes like a violent storm. It catches us off guard and by surprise. All we can do is hang on. But as we hang on in survival mode, the Father is busily at work protecting us. When the storm rages, rest under the protective presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. You will survive.

11/25/99     Psalm 58:11
There truly is a reward for those who live for God; surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Paul tells us that one day every knee shall bow and every person will confess Jesus as Lord. There is a day of accountability. All the things that are wrong will be set right. Justice will prevail. Every one of God’s children will be brought into His presence. Each one of them will be blessed. We serve a mighty God. Thank God for His blessings.

11/26/99     Psalm 61: 1-3
O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer! From the ends of the earth I will cry to you for help, for my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Life can be distressing. Sometimes we find ourselves in places far from home and trouble strikes. God is not limited by geography. He is where we are. Do not despair. The Father will not forget you or where you are. He will always be there to meet your needs. Rejoice we serve a mighty God.

11/27/99     Psalm 62:7
My salvation and my honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

When you trust God, it changes your outlook on life. Defeat is never final. Failure is just another step in life for victory is just ahead. The Lord is on your side. He will provide the help that you need.

11/28/99     Psalm 63:7-8
I think how much you have helped me; I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I follow close behind you; your strong right hand holds me securely. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God promises to give us strength in our time of testing. He does not say that He will eliminate challenges or problems. We live our life with the sure knowledge that the key to our success is in knowing the Lord. Life is a succession of ups and downs. Balance is achieved by growth in our relationship with the Lord. This requires my time and attention to the things of God. Daily Bible reading, a quiet time and diligence in applying God’s Words to my life are required.

11/29/99     Psalm 64: 10
The godly will rejoice in the Lord and find shelter in him. And those who do what is right will praise him. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Do the next right thing. When we commit to this kind of lifestyle, the Lord will be honored and praised.

11/30/99     Psalm 66: 8-9
Let the whole world bless our God and sing aloud his praises. Our lives are in his hands, and he keeps our feet from stumbling. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Lord is proud of you. He created you for fellowship with Him. All that you are and can be are a wonderful gift from the Lord. Seize the day. Serve the Lord. Rejoice and be blessed.

October 1999

10/1/99 Psalm 19:1-2
The heavens tell of the glory of God. The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

I am a sinner saved by grace. Jesus forgave me of my sin, and saved me. Salvation enabled me to see the wondrous glories of God in our world. Once I was ignorant and dead in my trespasses and sin but now praise God I can see. In Christ we everything we need as a child of God.

10/2/99 Romans 1: 20
From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and the sky and all that God has made. They can see clearly his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Pride separates man from God. Self is in the way. Only when a person humbly acknowledges that God is different and that he/she is a sinner, only then can one receive new life in Christ. All have sinned. Renouncing one’s sin and asking for forgiveness from the Lord Jesus Christ is the way of reconciliation to the Father.

10/3/99 Acts 17:24-25
He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need there is.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You do not think the way God thinks. When you respond to problems, ask the Lord if you are responding correctly. God will give you the wisdom, mercy, and grace to deal with the real life issues you face every day. Ask the Lord. He will help you.

10/4/99 Acts 17: 26- 27
From one man God created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand which should rise and fall, and he has determined their boundaries. His purpose in all of this was that the nations should seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Are you too busy for time with God? Get ready because it is going to be a really surprising day. Time with God prepares us for the unknown. Time with God reminds us that He is near. When we spend time with God we are outfitted for the spiritual war each one of us battle. Time with God is time well spent.

10/5/99 Acts 17: 30-31
God overlooked people’s former ignorance about these things, but now he commands everyone everywhere to turn from idols and turn to him. For he has set a day to judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus loves you. He died that your sin might be forgiven. He defeated death and the grave and is alive today. Jesus loves you but you have to choose to accept that love. Trust Jesus today. Ask Christ to forgive you of your sin and come into your heart today.

10/6/99 John 4:24 (Simplicity)
God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

A person must be alive in Christ to worship the Lord. When we come to the Lord we are charged with the responsibility to believe that God is there. He is there.

10/7/99 Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Hear, O Israel, The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is unique. He is Lord of all and creator of everything. Man forgets that his claim of importance and wisdom is sin. In Christ we find our value for in Christ we become family. Before all things existed, God was. This same loving creator God made you and wants to have a relationship with you. He stepped into this world and paid the price for the forgiveness of your sin. God loves you.

10/8/99 1 Kings 8: 27
But will God really live on earth? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you! Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is here with us. He resides in our hearts. He wants to have fellowship with us and be a part of all we do. Without Him all things would cease to exist. With Him in our lives we can do the things that are necessary for us to have an abundant life. In Christ the solid rock we stand.

10/09/99 Psalm 90: 1-2
Lord, through all generations you have been our home! Before the mountains were created. Before you made the earth and the world, You are God, without beginning or end.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is our refuge. We may trust in money, position, career, or a noble cause. They are not secure they are passing away. Only the Lord can provide the security that we are looking for. When our supports get shaky, we can trust the Lord. When life gets tough and things get bad, we can go to Jesus for encouragement, direction and security.    He is Lord of all.

10/10/99 James 1:17
Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven’s lights. Unlike them, he never changes or casts shifting shadows.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is perfect. He is not selfish or stingy. When we come to God we come to a Father who understands us and knows our needs. The Lord does not make us grovel or beg to get what we need. He invites us into His presence as dear children and encourages us to spend time with Him.

10/11/99 Psalm 139:7-12
(Lord), I can never escape from you spirit! I can never get away from your presence. If I go to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the place of the dead, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Have you wandered away from the Lord? Has your heart grown cold? Have you forgotten how to talk about the Lord or is your witness nonexistent? Do not fear for God has not lost you. He knows exactly where you are and is waiting for you to wake up and call upon Him. He can fix the problems that you are letting destroy you. Seek the Lord and He will be found.

10/12/99 Ephesians 1:11
Because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen just as he decided long ago. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Is your life chaotic? Does everything seem to be loosed from their moorings? Rest in this truth, Jesus is Lord. God is in control. He has not made a mistake in forgiving you and making you His child. When you become a child of God you are within the purpose of God and nothing can take you away from God.

10/13/99 Matthew 10:29-31
Not even a sparrow, worth only half a penny, can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to him than a whole flock of sparrows.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Failures and fears will not separate you from God. Your journey may be much different and more difficult than you thought it would be but nothing surprises Jesus. The Father accepted you knowing all about you including the future. God’s love will not cease nor will the Holy Spirit be removed from your heart. You are His forever. PERIOD.

10/14/99 Matthew 19: 25-26
The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked. Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. This is a simple and direct Biblical injunction. If a person will a ask Jesus into their heart they will be in the Family of God. Nothing else works. Only Jesus.

10/15/99 Deuteronomy 32:3-4
I will proclaim the name of the LORD; how glorious is our God. He is the Rock; his work is perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is! Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The glory of God is revealed in His mercy, grace, compassion, faithfulness, forgiveness, and justice. God reveals Himself in His love. We are each a great sinner and yet the God loves us. The Lord is a glorious, wonderful and mighty God. He is constantly seeking to benefit His creation. Glory to God in the highest.

10/16/99 1 John 4:8-10
Anyone who does not love does not know God—for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his own Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. It is not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Real love is holy, and giving. Love thinks of others first. He places His children first. His concern is for our safety, peace and joy. We are never out of His thoughts. Our lives are never beyond His control. Nothing that happens in our lives surprises Him and yet still He loves you and me. God is love.

10/17/99 Psalm 33:4
For the word of the LORD holds true, and everything he does is worthy of our trust. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God does not lie. He does not change. He knows all things. We can trust the Word of God because it comes from a trustworthy Lord.

10/18/99 Isaiah 40:13-15
Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to be his teacher or counselor? Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good or what is best? No, for all the nations of the world are nothing in comparison with him.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God’s provision sustains the universe. The Lord’s presence saves us in our time of need. He is never far when we are in trouble. God is good, all the time.

10/19/99 1 John 1:5
This is the message he has given us to announce unto you: God is light and there is no darkness in him at all.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Lord is the only one that can guide us out of the darkness of sin. He is holy, and true. In the darkness, good and evil co-exist. In the light of the Lord, we can distinguish good from evil. We choose the Lord. We choose by His power to set aside sinful things in our lives. In Christ we have life.

10/20/99 Exodus 3:13-14
But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they won’t believe me. They will ask, ‘Which god are you talking about? What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”
God replied, “I AM WHO I AM. Just tell them ‘I AM’ has sent you.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is eternal, all-powerful and unchanging. In our world values, morals and laws are always changing. God never changes. When we turn to the great I AM we find stability and security. The Lord always knows who you are, what you need and when you need it.

10/21/99 Psalm 57:2-3
I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me. He will send help from heaven to save me, rescuing me from those who are out to get me.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

In Christ we have direct access to the Father. He hears us because we belong to Him. We each take first place in the heart of the Father. Each one of His children is loved as if he/she were the only one. God loves His children.

10/22/99 John 13:15
I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. 16How true it is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important than the one who sends them. 17You know these things—now do them! That is the path of blessing. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

What we do matters. God gives us a new heart; but we are responsible for what our hands do, where our feet lead us and for the things we say. Pay attention to what you are doing.

10/23/99 Exodus 31:12-13
The Lord then gave these further instructions to Moses: “Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between you and me forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.”  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Sabbath day is a day of refreshment and remembrance. We draw aside from our hectic lifestyles and rejuvenate our bodies. While we rest we are to remember the Lord. God rejoices in our praise and we grow when we recognize the multitude of things that are praise worthy about our Lord and Savior. The Sabbath day enables us to maintain balance in our quickly passing lives.

10/24/99 Genesis 22:13-14
Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a bush. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering on the altar in place of his son. Abraham named the place, “The LORD Will Provide.” This name has now become a proverb, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God sent His only Son to die for us. By the death of Christ we were spared from the eternal death we deserve. God’s provision for us is always exactly what we need. The Lord is good, all the time. His goodness is beyond compare. Worthy is the Lamb.

10/25/99 Judges 6:23-24
“It is all right,” the Lord replied. “Do not be afraid. You will not die.” And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it “The Lord Is Peace.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Lord removes strife and chaos from our lives and in its place brings harmony and joy. His presence gives us the power to live our lives with a calm assurance. When we are aware of whose we are we can live a peaceful life where we are. The lost are looking for the peace that Jesus provides.

10/26/99 Isaiah 40:28-29
Have you never heard or understood? Don’t you know that the Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of all the earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Lord is never too tired to help you. Jesus is never too busy to listen to you. God cares for you and is always available to help you. When the world is pressing in and you cannot take another step, call upon the Lord and He will renew your strength.

10/27/99 Psalm 23:1
The Lord is my Shepherd; I have everything I need.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Sheep are dependent upon the Shepherd. They need guidance, protection and food and the shepherd provides all of these things. We are like sheep. We are easily led astray. We don’t know the way in which we should go. We starve for spiritual nourishment. Christ is our shepherd. He provides the real things that we need to live. In Christ we have all we need.

10/28/99 Psalm 31: 14-15
But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying ,”You Are My God!” My future is in your hands.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God loves and cares for us. All of life’s circumstances are in His hands. When we face numbing experiences we can be confident that God is in control. We can also be confident that the Lord always does the right thing for us.

10/29/99 Daniel 4:34-35
After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He has the power to do as he pleases among the angels of heaven and with those who live on earth. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God will take care of you. When you go to the Lord and ask Him to do whatever it takes to make you a good child and a strong servant, remember that the Lord will act in your life. Sometimes because of our pride and self-centeredness, the Lord must act more strongly than at other times. What will it take for the Lord to get your attention?

10/30/99 Romans 8: 28
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

This is a hard saying when things aren’t going our way. The problem generally is that we don’t see what God is up to. When you cannot see what God is doing you can trust His actions. Be still and know that He is Lord.

10/31/99 Philippians 1:6
And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day that Christ Jesus comes back again.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God will not give up on you. He will see you through to the end. As you struggle day by day, you can live with confidence that the Lord is working in you for His good purpose. Be filled with the Spirit and do not sin.

September 1999

9/1/99 Isaiah 43:7
All who claim me as their God will come, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We are never apart from the Lord. Alive, He is with us. When we die we will be where He is. God is the giver of all good and perfect gifts. Our life is a gift from Him. It is a good gift. Get busy. Live your life.

9/2/99 Isaiah 43:10-11
“But you are my witnesses, O Israel!,” says the Lord, “And you are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God; there never has been and never will be. I am the LORD, and there is no other Savior. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

I am a witness to the risen Lord Jesus. If I know Him and the power of His presence then I will tell others about Him by word and deed. If I am only a pretender, then I won’t have anything to say. Jesus is Lord.

9/3/99 Isaiah 43:13
From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can oppose what I do. No one can reverse my actions. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is big. We don’t realize how big. God is and is in control of all things. He does not make mistakes. God is never forgetful. He is not at a distance. God loves you and me. He has a plan for our lives. He is Lord of all.

9/4/99 Isaiah 43:25
I—yes, I alone—am the one who blots out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God forgives sinners. I am a sinner and He has forgiven me fully and completely. Think of the person that has done the worst thing in the world to you. Forgive that person, not because they deserve it but because God has forgiven you. Christ died for you.

9/5/99 John 4:23-24
For the time is coming and is already here when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. The Father is looking for anyone who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You can’t work your way to heaven. You heart must be cleansed from unrighteousness. Jesus gives us a new heart. It is the heart transplant that God provides that enables us to worship Him. Think carefully, how is your heart? Forgiving, generous, open, loving or is it the way it has always been?

9/6/99 1 Peter 2:4
Come to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by the people, but he is precious to God who chose him.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus holds all things together. Without Christ the world would not exist. Are you a bystander in the activity of life? Are you dead in your trespasses and sin? If you do not know Jesus you are a bystander, dead in your trespasses and sin. If you know Jesus, the call is to grow and become like Christ.

9/7/99 I Peter 2:5-6
And now God is building you, as living stones, into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are God’s holy priests, who offer the spiritual sacrifices that please him because of Jesus Christ. As the Scriptures express it, ” I am placing a stone in Jerusalem, a chosen cornerstone, and anyone who believes in him will never be disappointed.”  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You have a responsibility in the Kingdom of God. His church is His chosen tool for ministry in this world. You are a part of His church. He works thru people. Let Him work thru you. He commissions you to be His representative. When you care for others and share about Jesus you are caring the way that Jesus cares.

9/8/99 Hebrews 13: 15-16
With Jesus’ help, let us continually offer our sacrifice of praise to God by proclaiming the glory of his name. Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You are your brother or sister’s keeper. Greed is a sin. When we hoard our wealth we are being greedy and sinning. Open your heart and you will open your pocket book. When you come to Jesus, you learn to care about others. Jesus loves you.

9/9/99 Colossians 1:9-10
We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what he wants to do in your lives, and we ask him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while you will learn how to know God better and better.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

What we do comes out of what we are. We are called to make Christ first in our lives. The reason for this is that Christ destroys godless lives. We can fake a godly life for a while but when the winds of change or tribulation strike godless folk act like their father, Satan. Believe in Jesus. He is Lord of all.

9/10/99 I Timothy 2: 1-3
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, plead for God’s mercy upon them, and give thanks. Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, for he wants everyone to be saved  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God would that all be saved. Wherever you are what ever you have done, God is calling you to salvation. If you do not know Jesus, you are lost, dead in your trespasses and sin. It doesn’t matter how smart, how rich, how lucky, how handsome, how pretty, or when you think death is coming to you. When you die, if you do not know Jesus, you will spend eternity separated from the Lord. You will live an eternal death. You will be in continuous despair and pain. Choose Jesus while you can.

9/11/99 Psalm 147:11
The Lord’s delight is in those who honor him, those who put their trust in his unfailing love. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We honor the Lord by obeying Him. God’s children seek to know Him and find out what He would have them do. It takes time and energy to trust the Lord. Obedient children bless Him. Bless the Lord, oh my soul and all that is within me. Help me, Father, to be an obedient child.

9/12/99 1 John 3: 21-22
Dear friends, if our conscience is clear, we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive whatever we request because we obey him and do the things that please him. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You know when you sin. Go to the Lord and ask for forgiveness. When you ask for forgiveness ask also for the power and wisdom to change. God delights in our obedience and will abundantly give us what we need to live our lives wisely.

9/13/99 1 John 3: 23-24
And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. Those who obey God’s commandments live in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Holy Spirit lives in us. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The promises of God are a rich resource for our daily life. We can face the unknown confidently with the full assurance that our Father will hear us when we call out to Him. He is concerned about our good. God is on our side.

9/14/99 James 1:5-6
If you need wisdom—if you want to know what God wants you to do—ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is here. He is always by our side. Anytime we talk with God, we know that He listens aggressively to our requests. His answers are always forthcoming, always timely, and always adequate. We serve a mighty God who gloriously saves us to live our lives with Him.

9/15/99 Psalm 32: 8-9
The LORD says, I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or a mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God would like to guide us with love and wisdom. If we become His child and live disobedient lives, God will guide us with discipline and punishment. Your choice, obey God.

9/16/99 Proverbs 6: 20-23
Obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s teaching. Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck. Wherever you walk, their counsel can lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up in the morning they will advise you. For these commands and this teaching are a lamp to light the way ahead of you. The correction of discipline is the way to life.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Learn from your mistakes. Listen to your parents. Seek wise counsel for all your decisions. Be careful when you question advice. Make sure that your wisdom comes from the Word and not the world.

9/17/99 Joshua 1: 8
Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so that you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Life is not easy. It is filled with many challenges and tribulations. You need godly counsel to survive. God’s Word gives us wisdom, courage and hope. The Word of God is a light unto our path and a lamp unto our feet. With the Lord we will be successful. When we read His Word and think about what He has said we can follow Him.

9/18/99 Joshua 1:9
Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We must learn to be who we are. Our gifts and our skills are the exact gifts and skills that the Lord God gave us. We can lead joyous and abundant lives being who we are. The Lord made us. He will not desert us. We are not alone. We are not at the mercy of the world. We were not a mistake. We are loved and valuable. Be blessed because the Lord God Almighty loves you.

9/19/99 Psalm 37: 23
The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is good. Every thought that God has toward you is for your good. Who you are and what you do is more important to Jesus than it is to you. You can trust the Lord Jesus. He will provide the resources you need for living your life. Remember that He gave His life for you. He loves you that much.

9/20/99 Proverbs 3: 5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your path.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Read the Word of God. Does your decision square with God’s Word? Seek council from those around you that are wise. Is the course you are taking wise? Spend time with the Lord in prayer and seek His council. Does the Lord speak to the issue? In all of these ways and more the Father seeks to give us wisdom to live our lives. Trust in the Lord. Be wise.

9/21/99 Proverbs 3:11-12
Don’t ignore it when the LORD disciplines you, and don’t be discouraged when he corrects you. For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Why are you in trouble this time? Have you ignored a direct command from the Lord? His Word is a command to us for righteous and godly living. When you disobey your Father’s directives, He will discipline you. Straighten up. Quit whining. Thank God that He cares for you. Be obedient.

9/22/99 Isaiah 47:17-18
The LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, says: I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is good and leads you along paths you should follow. Oh, that you had listened to my commands! Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling like waves.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We go our own way so easily. Watch how you are living your life. Immediate repentance is our response when we find ourselves against God. If you are not where you you should be, ask the Lord to forgive you of your sin, turn from your wicked ways and follow Him.

9/23/99 Isaiah 58:11
The LORD will guide you continually, watering your life when you are dry and keeping you healthy, too. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is trustworthy. He never wavers. He is never caught off-guard. He is interested in my life. His eye is upon me. He is intimately involved in all the events of my life. God cares for me.

9/24/99 1 Peter 2: 2-3
You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you can grow into the fullness of your salvation. Cry out for this nourishment as a baby cries for milk, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Growth is our option. Too many Christians never grow and constantly whine about their failures. God’s Word helps us to grow. It points out the right path for us to walk. Time with Jesus enables us to change. Growth requires change. If we fail to focus on the Word and Christ we will not grow. If you find yourself immature in your faith, confess your failure and turn to Jesus. Ask Him to help you read the Word with interest and understanding. Then you will grow.

9/25/99 II Timothy 2: 19
God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription; “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “Those who claim to belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

False teachers are always with us. It is not our responsibility to prove they are wrong. We are called to follow Jesus. God’s truth does not change. Jesus is God’s truth. He does not change. He will not leave us. Follow Him.

9/26/99 II Timothy 2:20-21
In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a utensil God can use for his purpose. Your life will be clean and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Allow God to use you. He has a good plan for your life. God’s use is the best use of our lives. Let God have His way with you. Be about His service and you will find the best use of your life. Joy and peace will be the result of surrendering your plans to Him.

9/27/99 II Timothy 2: 22
Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust. Follow anything that makes you want to do right. Pursue faith and love and peace, and enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

A wise person knows they cannot stand in the face of temptation. They run from it into the loving arms of the Father. The guaranteed path of failure is to constantly challenge those things in our life that have proven to be a weakness. God calls us from stupidity to wisdom. Run when you face repeated temptation in your life.

9/28/99 Psalm 84:11
For the Lord God is our light and protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who do what is right.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God will provide what we need to grow. We sacrifice our time to be with the Lord. It is time with the Lord that enables us to grow. Our life must be carefully controlled to include daily time with the Lord. When we cultivate a relationship with Jesus, He will speak to the needs of our life and encourage our hearts. Christ likeness is the result of a life focused on Christ.

9/29/99 Psalm 86: 11
Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

When we face great trials and tribulations we learn the process of yearning for the Lord. It begins on our knees, when we cry out for help. Trouble can be a wonderful blessing. It can outfit us for growing in Christ. Or, it can cause us to be angry with the Lord. Each one of us must make a choice when trouble comes, the Lord’s way or our way.

9/30/99 Psalm 89.1-2
I will sing of the tender mercies of the Lord forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness. Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is faithful. He is faithful to you from this moment throughout eternity. His promises will come true. His eye is on you and He is thinking about you this very moment. He loves you and will never leave you.

8/1/99 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Now there are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service in the church, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are different ways God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. God manifests the Spirit through each person for the good of the entire church.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Christ is all and in all. In Christ we find our access, unity, gifts and relationship to the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus is the one. In him we become one. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. You will experience growth, encouragement, renewal and forgiveness. When we go to Jesus, we often find that the problems we are facing with others is caused by sin in our lives.

8/2/99 Romans 11: 29
God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God uses broken people. When we find ourselves on our knees before the Lord, we are in the proper position for the Father to call us for service. Until we experience brokenness we will not be able to get beyond our pride and self-sufficiency.

8/3/99 1 Corinthians 12:11
It is the same and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

I must always be what God created me to be. If I refuse to celebrate the gifts God gives me I will always see myself as unworthy and falling short. My gifts are the gifts for which the Lord holds me responsible. God loves me and the gifts He gave me were the ones He wanted me to have.

8/4/99 1 Corinthians 12: 27
Now all of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The ground at the Cross-is level. Each one of us is loved of God. Our gifts are not indicators of God’s love for us. Our gifts are marching orders for service. Christ is the proof of God’s love. Exercising my gifts is proof of my love for God.

8/5/99 Ephesians 4: 15-16
We will hold to the truth in love, becoming more and more in every way like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Under his direction, the whole body is fitted together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We are works in progress. We strive mightily in full knowledge that we are engaged in spiritual warfare. Our strength is our faith not our accomplishments. All that we do we do as unto the Lord. When we fail we proceed rapidly into the presence of the Lord. He forgives and heals and sends us forth to serve. God uses broken vessels. When we find ourselves broken, get ready for service is at hand.

8/6/99 1 Corinthians 12: 24-26
So God has put the body together in such a way that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other equally. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God loves people most of all. When the focus of our heart is Jesus, God will be glorified and people will be loved.

8/7/99 Ephesians 4: 11-13
(Christ) is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ, until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Our model for service is Jesus. We measure ourselves by Him. As we serve the Lord, we do not look to the left or right. Our eyes are upon the Living Lord and we are constantly seeking direction from Him. The bride of Christ is the church. Jesus loves the church. When we serve Jesus we will be active in the church and love it like Jesus does.

8/8/99 Romans 12:1
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask?
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Serving God is a daily event. We cannot rest today based on yesterday’s work. It is important for us to understand and remember that a relationship with the Living Lord Jesus is a now relationship. We can be obedience because we love Jesus. Sacrifice is what we do to serve the Lord. Not my will Father but your will.

8/9/99 Romans 12:2
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God’s plan for my life is good. He wants the best for me. If I will put the Lord first, he will make the things I do a blessing to those I serve and to me. If I can maintain my focus on Jesus, and willingly set aside sin in my life, the result will be a life lived that will be a great blessing for me in my older years. The Lord builds a no regrets life. No regrets today, no regrets tomorrow and no regrets in eternity.

8/10/99 Romans 12:3-6
As God’s messenger, I give each of you this warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has a different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Our identity is in Christ. Changing the way we respond to worldly values is more than not touching and not tasting. It is a change in our hearts. We no longer want the forbidden things of this world. This is impossible to do unless a Christian is willing to make Christ the focus of his or her life. Jesus is all and in all. When He has all of us, we have all of Him.

8/11/99 Romans 12:6-8
God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Do what you can. Be who you are. Don’t evaluate yourself in light of the things you can’t do. Tithe what you have. Pray about what is affecting you. Forgive those who hurt you. Love those you are with.

8/12/99 1 Corinthians 12:29-31
Is everyone an apostle? Of course not. Is everyone a prophet? No. Are all teachers? Does everyone have the power to do miracles? Does everyone have the gift of healing? Or course not. Does God give to all of us the ability to speak in tongues? Can everyone interpret tongues? No! And in any event, you should desire the most helpful gifts.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Use what you have to help others. Don’t wait until tomorrow or until you get more. Use what you have. Do what you can. Be about the Lord’s business now.

8/13/99 Matthew 6: 31-33
Don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Have you ever worried about those dead in their trespasses and sin? Are you concerned about your son or daughter? Does your mate know Jesus? Worry about eternal things if you must worry. God will take care of you.

8/14/99 Matthew 7:13-14
You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way. But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

What road are you on? Is Jesus Lord and Savior in your life? If you aren’t sure you are on the broad road. You are headed to hell. Better turn at the nearest intersection. Ask Christ right now to forgive you of your sin and be Lord of your life.

8/15/99 John 14:6
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The way to the Father through Christ is wide enough for the whole world. This way creator is in charge. Not my way but His way, Christ is the only way.

8/16/99 Hebrews 3: 16-19
And who were those people who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Weren’t they the ones Moses led out of Egypt? And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom was God speaking when he vowed that they would never enter his place of rest? He was speaking to those who disobeyed him. So we see that they were not allowed to enter his rest because of their unbelief.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

If I trust God, I will change my life. This is simple to understand and easy to implement. Note that this is not a statement of finality but a declaration of a journey. My life in Christ is a life that is constantly being changed into the likeness of the living Lord Jesus.

8/17/99 Hebrews 4:1-3
God’s promise of entering his place of rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to get there. For this Good News— that God has prepared a place of rest— has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t believe what God told them. For only we who believe can enter his place of rest.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The heart is the place of change. First I must accept Christ as my Lord and Savior. Then, with a new heart I can begin to work under His direction changing the way I am and the things I do. When I come to Him and believe that He has given me a new heart then it will be possible for me to begin new life in Christ.

8/18/99 Hebrews 4: 6-7
So God’s rest is there for people to enter. But those who formerly heard the Good News failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his place of rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David a long time later in the words already quoted: “Today you must listen to his voice. Don’t harden your hearts against him.” Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

When we hear God speaking to us is the time to respond to the offer of salvation. We are not promised tomorrow only today. When your heart is warmed and you soul is yearning, that is the time to respond to Jesus.

8/19/99 Matthew 11: 28-30
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.”  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus loves you. He will provide peace for your life. By faith you can find the comfort that you are looking for. You are not alone, nor are you at the mercy of the world. In Christ you can a meaningful life. Don’t despair. Don’t give up. At the point of your brokenness, Christ is waiting to provide healing.

8/20/99 Luke 12:22-24
Then turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “So I tell you, don’t worry about everyday life—whether you will have enough food to eat or clothes to wear. For life consists of far more than food or clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t need to plant or harvest or put food in barns because God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!”  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Do your best and put the results in the Lord’s hands. We work and the Lord provides solutions. Stop worrying. Worry hurts you and disappoints the Father. God loves you and is thinking of you all the time. Trust the Lord. Stop worrying.

8/21/99 Luke 12: 25-26
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Of course not! And if worry can’t do little things like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?   Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

It is more productive to pray than to worry. It is more productive to work hard than to worry. Worry is a negative activity whose only purpose is to destroy your peace. In Jesus we find peace and comfort for our soul. The Lord is on your side.

8/22/99 Luke 12: 33-34
Sell what you have and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven have no holes in them. Your treasure will be safe—no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. Wherever your treasure is, there will your heart and thoughts also be.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

When Jesus is our focus, ministry is the result. When money is our focus, heartache is the result. Set aside money goals and make the Kingdom of God central in your life. Work hard, serve God and our eternal treasure will grow. Wealth comes to some in the form of money, but all of us can have wealth in our relationship with the Father.

8/23/99 Luke 12:35-37
Be dressed for service and well prepared, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. There will be special favor for those who are ready and waiting for his return.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Are you ready for the judgement day? Christ is coming back. You will not live forever. Our lives pass by in a flash. Lives lived carelessly have a way of vanishing before the careless one realizes it. Jesus could come back today. Are you ready?

8/24/99 Romans 14:1-3
Accept Christians who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. For instance, one person believes it is all right to eat anything, But another believer who has a sensitive conscience will eat only vegetables. Those who think it is alright to eat anything must not look down on those who won’t. And those who won’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We are all weak in some areas of our faith and strong in other areas. The sooner we recognize that we are sojourners in this world and that this place is not our home we will begin to think properly about those that we live with. People count most of all with the Lord and we are called to make people count most of all in our daily lives. Watch what you say, take care with what you do.

8/25/99 Romans 14:12-13
Each of us will have to give a personal account to God. So don’t condemn each other anymore. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not put an obstacle in another Christian’s path. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God has His eye on you. He sees everything single thing you do. It is recorded and remembered. You are your brother or sister’s keeper. Be hard on your self and gentle with others. Not the reverse.

8/26/99 Romans 14:17-19
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God. And other people will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Think about Jesus. When you rise, when you walk, when you study, when you fail, when you talk, at all times think about the risen Lord. When you do this you will develop wisdom and restraint. As you grow you will become more like Jesus.

8/27/99 John 15:5
(Jesus said: ) I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Soul winning, prayer, peace, joy, and love are included in fruit bearing. You just cannot do the work of God without being under the control of Jesus. He will direct your path and give you guidance for living.

8/28/99 John 15: 7-8
But if you stay joined to me and my word remains in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be be granted! My true disciples produce much fruit. This brings great glory to my father. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is glorified when we surrender ourselves to Jesus. We can do nothing apart from Him. When we let Jesus control our lives He will direct our path. Time with Jesus takes time. We are to allocate our time to include Bible reading, prayer time and reflection time. Time with the Lord is time well spent.

8/29/99 Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the command I have given you, and be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The last words of a good friend are important. Jesus told his disciples that they were under his authority and that they should do the things that He had done. We are to be busy as the Lord’s representative in this life. Jesus will never leave us. We are not alone. Our call is to tell what He is doing in our lives.

8/30/99 Matthew 7:24-25
(Jesus said: ) Anyone who listens to my teaching and obeys me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse, because it is built on rock.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

We are to listen and do. The doing must become a consistent part of our lives. If I listen and believe, I will do. How do I evaluate my Christian walk? By looking at my behavior and attitude. If it is Christlike then I am growing. If I continue to act like a pagan, then there is a disconnect in my Christian walk. I need to go back to Jesus, ask for forgiveness and strength to change and change. God is interested in my obedience.

8/31/99 Matthew 7:12
(Jesus said: ) Do for others what you would like them to do for you. This is a summary of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.  Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The Golden Rule is an affirmation in a positive way of my responsibility for my brother or sister. I am to do for not to ignore or evade. When we treat others like we ourselves want to be treated we grow. When we do for others what we want them to do for us, we find that the true gift is the giving. We grow when we give like Jesus gave.

July 1999

7/1/99 Romans 6: 15-16
So since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does this mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! 16Don’t you realize that whatever you choose to obey becomes your master? You can choose sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God and receive his approval.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

When we come into the Family of God, we are responsible to choose our lifestyle. I can become as much like Jesus as I want. In Christ, I am no longer a slave to the flesh. In Christ I can grow in likeness to Him. I choose not the evil one. I am the one that is responsible for the way that I live.

7/2/99 Galatians 5:1
So Christ has really set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Never forget that the easy way is most often the wrong way. When I am confronted with the choices of life, I must choose how I will respond. Each point of choice requires me to evaluate the type of response I will make. Christ calls me to do the right thing. The flesh wants me to respond mindlessly to people and live a self centered life. It is my choice.

7/3/99 James 1:25
But if you keep looking steadily into God’s perfect law—the law that sets you free—and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God created me to obey Him. In Christ, I have perfect freedom to obey God. My obedience to God creates a successful lifestyle and a Godly life. God wants me to succeed. The only way I can do that is by a lifestyle of obedience.

7/4/99 Psalms 33:12
What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen for his own.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is completely trustworthy. I am disappointed in myself when I respond to life with inconsistency. Sometimes I am surprised by the way that I respond. God never surprises us with uncertainty. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. The Eternal Living God is worthy of all of our devotion and obedience. He is trustworthy.

7/5/99 Psalm 11: 5 – 7
The LORD examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates everyone who loves violence. He rains down blazing coals on the wicked, punishing them with burning sulfur and scorching winds. For the Lord is righteous, and he loves justice. Those who do what is right will see his face.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God’s tests for some are a refining fire. Someone outside of God’s control in the same circumstances will find the same test an incinerator of destruction. Our tests are not an indication of our value. The way we respond to the test is the key indicator. Our responsibility is to do the next right thing. Bless the Lord for He is in control.

7/6/99 Proverbs 13:2
Good people enjoy the positive results of their words, but those who are treacherous crave violence.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Our heart is the rudder for the works of our hands. A child of God acts like a child of God. A child of Satan acts like Satan. We must pay careful attention to the way that we act. Our actions may be the only New Testament that a lost person ever reads. Jesus died that all might be saved.

7/7/99 Ezekiel 8:17-18
“Have you seen this, son of man,” (God) asked (Ezekiel). “Is it nothing for the people of Judah that they commit these terrible sins, leading the whole nation into violence, thumbing their noses at me, rousing my fury against them? Therefore, I will deal with them in fury. I will neither pity nor spare them. And although they scream for mercy, I will not listen.”
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The wrath of God is a terrible thing to contemplate. The admonition by Ezekiel warns us that what we think about God by the way we live is an indicator of our relationship with God. Going to church, God-talk, and religious trappings don’t save us. Christ said that He was the way, the truth and the life. He also said that He, Jesus, was the only way we could be saved. There is salvation in no one else.

7/8/99 Jonah 3:7-10
Then the king and his nobles sent this decree throughout the city: “No one, not even the animals, may eat or drink anything at all. Everyone is required to wear sackcloth and pray earnestly to God. Everyone must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence. Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will have pity on us and hold back his fierce anger from destroying us.”
When God saw that they had put a stop to their evil ways, he had mercy on them and didn’t carry out the destruction he had threatened.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Change. Look at the way you are living and change. The best of us too easily establish lifestyles that alienate us from God. Plow up the hard ground of your heart and change. Before it is too late, change. God wants each one of us to be constantly changing into the likeness of Jesus. Change.

7/09/99 Psalm 72:12-14
(The LORD) will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. He feels pity for the weak and the needy and he will rescue them. He will save them from oppression and from violence, for their lives are precious to him.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God says that He loves that bedraggled homeless person you saw on the street. God says that that poor needy soul is precious to Him. What did you think? What was your evaluation? God says that He takes a personal interest, a special interest in the poor and needy. What kind of interest are you taking?

7/10/99 Psalm 34:14
Turn away from evil and do good. Work hard at living at peace with others.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The next time you find yourself caught up in evil, turn away from and immediately do something good. It really is simple for God’s children to survive and overcome the evil one. Don’t wring your hands about the power of sin. Don’t cry for God to intervene. Stop doing evil and do good. This is a simple way that we can claim the power of God and defeat sins hold on us. Do it.

7/11/99 Psalm 37: 37-38
Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future lies before those who love peace. But the wicked will be destroyed; they have no future.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God is on my side. I am sincerely striving to live a Christ like life and some days fail miserably. When I stop and go to the Lord, He reminds me that He is on my side.

7/12/99 Isaiah 52: 7
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Everyone needs the Lord. Many that we come into contact with on a daily basis are dead in their trespasses and sin. We have good news about their peace and eternal security. Ask the Lord to give you a heart of love for everyone that you come into contact with. When you love them you will be able to share the Good News of Christ with them.

7/13/99 Matthew 5:9
God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Peace requires hard work. It doesn’t come to those that simply breeze through life. Peace is developed in a growing relationship with Jesus. It is one of the benefits of a Godly lifestyle. As we deal with our speech, and build the ways of the Lord into our lives we pursue peace.

7/14/99 Romans12: 17-18
Never payback evil for evil to anyone. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Forgiveness is mandatory for the followers of Christ. We are not called to evaluate others actions but simply to forgive them. The issue is never what they have done but whether or not I will follow the Lord. Christ forgives us.

7/15/99 Romans 12: 19-21
Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God. For it is written, “I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it.” Says the Lord.
Instead, do what the Scriptures say, ” If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. And they will be ashamed of what they have done to you.”
Don’t let evil get the best of you, but conquer evil by doing good.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

The only defense we have against evil is to do good. When we do good, we are exhibiting our confidence and trust in the Lord. We are to pray for those that curse us. These are hard words and separate the Children of God from the children of Satan.

7/16/99 Luke 14:25-27
25Great crowds were following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, 26“If you want to be my follower you must love me more than£ your own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, more than your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. 27And you cannot be my disciple if you do not carry your own cross and follow me.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Cross bearing will never be a popular activity. The reason is because I must deal with myself to carry a cross. I always want to be first, have it easiest, get the most, or be the favorite. Christ calls me to put Him first. Cross bearing will never be popular or easy.

7/17/99 Matthew 10:38-39
8If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. 39If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Cross bearing is a daily activity. I must be willing to be who I am to bear my cross. Reality is the first step in cross bearing. God made me for a mission. Will I do what God has called me to do or will I always seek to go my own way? Obedience to the Lord is the difference in cross bearing, Christ honoring service. Anything else is only an imitation. Christ calls me to look beyond what the world works for and recognize the eternal nature of our service to Him. Our feet are to be firmly placed in this world but our heart is to be totally given to the Lord.

7/18/99 Matthew 16:26-27
26And how do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul£ in the process? Is anything worth more than your soul? 27For I, the Son of Man, will come in the glory of my Father with his angels and will judge all people according to their deeds.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God sees things differently than the world does. If we only evaluate ourselves by the world’s standards, we will only build with wood, hay and stubble. In the day of judgement, all that we have worked for and built will be destroyed. On the other hand, if we focus our life on the things of God, our work will stand. The choice is ours. God’s way or no way.

7/19/99 Matthew 19:29-30
Everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will have eternal life. 30But many who seem to be important now will be the least important then, and those who are considered least here will be the greatest then.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Eternal rewards outweigh temporary benefits. Our life in Christ is to be based on eternal values. Jesus is Lord of all. Anytime my focus is on something other than Jesus, my service in the world will be misplaced. Only by the leadership of the Lord can I find the right focus for my life.

7/20/99 John 8:2
2Jesus said to the people, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Christ will not let you stumble. The outlook may seem bleak. The battle may look lost. But, in Christ we have a victorious Lord who will lead us in His eternal triumph.

7/21/99 John 10:27-29
My sheep recognize my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them away from me, 29for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. So no one can take them from me.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Jesus is God’s everything. In Christ we have every resource that we will need. Our strength is our faith. Our victory is His promise. In Christ the solid rock I stand.

7/22/99 John 13:16-18
I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. 16How true it is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important than the one who sends them. 17You know these things—now do them! That is the path of blessing.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Talk is cheap. People evaluate us not on what we say but on what we do. Christ has appointed us to represent him here on earth. We are called to serve the Lord, serve each other and to minister in the world as an emissary of Christ. Don’t forget that every person we come into contact with needs Jesus. Jesus is the only way. We may be the only Jesus that some people will ever meet.

7/23/99 Galatians 5:25-26
If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. 26Let us not become conceited, or irritate one another, or be jealous of one another.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Everything we do comes under the scrutiny of God. We cannot compartmentalize our lives. All that we say and do is to be done as unto the Lord. We are to bear the Cross-of Christ every day, not just Sunday.

7/24/9 Ephesians 5:1-2
Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, because that sacrifice was like sweet perfume to him.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Self-sacrificing service is our goal. When we study God’s Word, it is to change our hearts, call us to repentance and equip us to serve others. Our end game is not winning. We are not to worry about honors or folks saying thank you. Our responsibility is to care for others in the same way that Christ cares for us. Our command is to go and be like Christ.

7/25/99 Philippians 2:12-13
Dearest friends, you were always so careful to follow my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away you must be even more careful to put into action God’s saving work in your lives, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. 13For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

God requires first place. He will empower us to live a Christian life. He will not empower us if we will not let Him. If we do not grow, it is not the Lord’s fault. First ask God to show you where you have gone wrong. Then, repent of self will and ask the Lord to help you change. When you trust the Lord He will give you the power to change. He will enable you to obey Him. God wants you to become like Jesus.

7/26/99 2 Timothy 2:5-7
Follow the Lord’s rules for doing his work, just as an athlete either follows the rules or is disqualified and wins no prize. 6Hardworking farmers are the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. 7Think about what I am saying. The Lord will give you understanding in all these things.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You must know God’s rules to follow them. One of the requirements for the king in the Old Testament is that he make a personal handwritten copy of the Scriptures so that he would know God’s law. You too must know the rules. Ignorance of what God is calling you to do is no excuse. Study God’s Word diligently. Seek to understand what the Lord is saying to you about your life and work. Spend time in God’s Word!

7/27/99 2 Timothy 2:22
2Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust. Follow anything that makes you want to do right. Pursue faith and love and peace, and enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Stop sinning. It is as simple as that. God’s Word is clear, when you find yourself in a compromised position, run from it. If you are tempted to drink, stop going where drinking is going on. If you have bad friends, get new ones. You stop sinning.

7/28/99 2 Timothy 2:23-25
Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. 24The Lord’s servants must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone. They must be able to teach effectively and be patient with difficult people. 25They should gently teach those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will believe the truth
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. We are to carefully present the Word of God in a respectful, loving way. Those that will not listen cannot be brow beaten. If you will care for them as the Word calls you to do, your actions will speak louder than your words.

7/29/99 Hebrews 6:11-12
11Our great desire is that you will keep right on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. 12Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and patience.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Heaven will be a great place. We will get there sooner than we think. Right now in the midst of all of life’s problems, remember that time is short. You don’t have a lot of time left. Work hard. Serve fearlessly. Strive to grow. Heaven will be a great place.

7/30/99 Hebrews 13:8-9
8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your spiritual strength comes from God’s special favor, not from ceremonial rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Keep your eyes on Jesus. This world is always changing. Leaders come and leaders go. Jesus is always here and never changes. He loves you. He will enable you to serve Him. You are a child of God and never outside of Christ’s watchcare.

7/31/99 1 Peter 2:21-23
Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in his steps. 22He never sinned, and he never deceived anyone. 23He did not retaliate when he was insulted. When he suffered, he did not threaten to get even. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.
Hi, I’m Mike Clay with Today’s Good News.

Christ never sinned. He suffered in life and died on the Cross-for me, so that a sinner like me could be saved. If I serve Christ, I will suffer. Those that I am trying to help will be the ones that hurt me. All who follow Jesus must be prepared to suffer.

6/1/99 Psalm 4:1
We harbor thoughts of helplessness. When we are honest with God, we find resolution for our fears. Our pleas are always heard. His answer is always forthcoming. I choose to believe His response. God loves each one of us as if there were no other of us.

6/2/99 Psalm 28:2-3
Unlike the wicked we are to be straight forward and sincere in all or our relationships. The Lord has full knowledge of who we are and what we are. Honesty in our relationship with the Lord is the only way that we can succeed.

6/3/99 Psalm 61:1-3
Time or distance does not limit God. He knows us better than we know ourselves. The Lord is a strong protector of His people wherever they are. He will provide the shelter that we need. He safeguards us when we are under attack.

6/4/99 Psalm 86:1-2
I find it amazing that we can pray so boldly to the Lord. In your quiet time, use God’s Words to voice your need. Bold praying produces miraculous results. The Lord listens to our prayers.

6/5/99 Psalm 143:8
We need to be specific in our prayers. Tell the Lord exactly what your needs are. When the Lord hears us He will answer us. He gives us more than 7,000 promises in His Word. One of those promises says that the Lord will answer our prayers. Tell Him what you need and remind Him of His promise. God loves to hear from each one of His children.

6/6/99 Daniel 9:18
We never know the hurt and pain that others go through. But, we are keenly aware of our own pain when we are hurting. The Lord knows our hurt. He experiences our pain. Out of His deep love for us, He sends grace to heal our souls. We never deserve grace. God’s grace sends mercy just in time. The Lord is in the hurt healing business. God loves us with a healing love.

6/7/99 Jonah 2:7-9
Pain and agony are the proving ground for spiritual growth. Few Christians find consistent growth in the midst of good times. We claim the good things as our work and the bad things as misfortune. The truth is that the hard times shape us for kingdom service. In the midst of your hurt and pain call upon the Lord. You can be confident that the Lord is at work helping you grow. God is good, all the time.

6/8/99 Matthew 6:5-6
God wants you to succeed. Speak to the Lord constantly and consistently. He wants to hear from you. Your conversation with the Lord will change your life. Pray daily.

6/9/99 Matthew 21:21-22
Our prayer life must first be effective in changing us. In most of the struggles in my life, I will generally be the problem. God can solve my problems. Moving mountains is simple when compared to changing the things in my life that cause me to sin. God loves people most of all.

6/10/99 Luke 11:9-10
Constancy in prayer creates an inner focus. We are always in need of change. Sin has a way of creeping in unnoticed. When we are focused before the Lord he will help us to see our sin and change. The greatest need that we have in our lives is to become more like Jesus. Sin is always our stumbling block. God forgives sin and heals us.

6/11/99 Colossians 4:2
We are to pray with a passionate heart. Our prayer should be intensive and desperate. We are sinful, stiff necked people and only change when the Lord intervenes. Thank you Lord for all of the changes that you have made in my life. I believe Lord Jesus, help my unbelief.

6/12/99 I Timothy 4:4-5
My life is a gift from God. I am the one that chooses how I will respond to the blessings that God sends my way. Joy is a choice. God is good all the time.

6/13/99 James 5:16
Pious attitudes cut off our communion with the Father. Each one of us has a lifelong struggle with sin. Our responsibility is to develop a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit pointing out our sin. Sin recognized needs to be confessed. When we confess our sin, He is faithful and righteous to forgive our sin.

6/14/99 Psalm 119: 45
If I follow God’s law, I am free to be God’s child. In Christ, we have real freedom. The world offers temporary freedom with eternal consequences. Christ offers eternal freedom with permanent benefits. My way is hurt and pain. God’s way is peace and security.

6/15/99 Isaiah 49:9-11
We will experience trials and suffering all the days of our life. We will never be without the resources of God. When we are hurting, the Lord brings healing. When we are at our wits end, the Lord provides wisdom. Whatever our need, the Lord will provide it. Faith is learning to recognize this fact in the midst of conflict or attack and claiming the resources available to us.

6/16/99 Romans 8:21-23
The world is physically decaying and spiritually dead. God’s children know this but because we are his we do not have to live pessimistic lives. The protecting hand of the Lord is on each one of us that name the name of Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We have a hope that enables us to live resurrected lives under the direct leadership of the Lord Jesus Christ.

6/17/99 I Corinthians 1:30
God is our source. His son, Jesus Christ is the answer to all of the problems in our life. Jesus is God’s everything. He is the a to z. Our union and identification with Jesus gives us full access to the Father.

6/18/99 1 Corinthians 8:9
One day I realized that I was my brother’s keeper. Maturity in Christ enabled me to see that my faith equipped me to care for others. In Christ I accept this responsibility. I can sacrifice the pettiness of the flesh for protection of my brother.

6/19/99 I Corinthians 10:29-33
God loves people most of all. The Lord is at work in the world seeking to save those that are lost. He has chosen to do this work through people. People connecting with people, sharing the Gospel is the way that the message of salvation is spread. God loves people most of all.

6/20/99 II Corinthians 3:17-18
You can’t be like Jesus if you don’t spend time with Him. My life is shaped and molded into the likeness of Christ as I surrender more of me to Him. It takes time. I am the only one that can control my time. How much time have you spent with the Wonderful One today? Jesus is Lord of all.

6/21/99 Galatians 4:4-6
God’s timing is perfect. He always has our best interest at heart. If you are struggling for an answer to one of life’s problems, trust the Lord. He will bring the right thing at the right time into your life. Trust and obey.

6/22/99 Galatians 5:13
I am free to do right. I am no longer in bondage and slavery to sin. Satan’s way is not my way. I can forgive the mean spirited. Those that hate me are objects of prayer. When I am abused, I can forgive. My world is now a better place for I am free from the pessimism and darkness all around. Jesus is in control and I belong to Him.

6/23/99 Colossians 1:13-14
We have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. The rebel king has been deposed. We have been rescued from devastation and placed in a position of security. This is a past, present and future event. We will never again be in the dark. God rules.

6/24/99 1 Peter 2:16
Our limitations in this world cause us to stumble at every turn. We never know exactly the right thing to do. We live our lives with high anxiety or lack of concern. High anxiety and lack of concern creates addictions. Slavery to God puts us under His authority and destroys our addiction to sin. Under His control we find real freedom. His guidance of our every step gives us the wisdom we need to avoid sin and to make good decisions. Freedom is found in Jesus.

6/25/99 Psalm 34:6
What I think makes me who I am. The battlefield of spiritual warfare is in the mind. As the Evil One attacks, I can choose to give into negative thoughts or I can choose to turn my face to the Lord and seek His input into my mind. He promises to help me in my hour of need. I can claim that promise. Victory is mine in Christ.

6/26/99 Isaiah 44:22
Careless living could be a good description of the way we live sometimes. Life catches us unawares and becomes a swirling vortex of useless activity. Bible study and quiet times become things that we dream of doing someday. God has forgiven our sin today. Our study and devotion is always a today thing. Return the Lord says to what you know is the right way. Right now, stop what you are wasting your time with and invest yourself in our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

6/27/99 Isaiah 58:6-8
Sincere faith reaches out to others. Our relationship with the Father will cause us to invest our lives in others. People count. We need to examine our lives and make sure that we are putting people first. Jesus does.

6/28/99 John 8:31-32
Jesus is the truth. He frees us from the consequences of our sin. He enables us to see ourselves the way we are and to break free from the control of Satan. Jesus shows us clearly the way of eternal life with the Father and indeed provides eternal life for us. The Perfect One has a Perfect Plan for each one of us. He gives us freedom to accomplish that Plan.

6/29/99 John 8:34-36
Sin is a dictator. It is always seeking to enslave us to accomplish its goal, our annihilation. When you feel sin controlling, dominating, or dictating your actions turn to Jesus. Stop where you are, simply ask Jesus to move you out of the sin and put you under His control. Faith moves mountains. Jesus destroys sin every time we give Him control.

6/30/99 Romans 6:6-7
We are alive in Christ. No longer are we dead in our sin. When Christ came into our lives, He came with sin destroying power. I can choose not to sin. Sin can no longer lead me around as a slave for I am a child of God. The only power sin has in my life is the power of duplicity. Jesus names my sin and leads me out of it every time. Christ is Lord. He is the real power in the world.

5/1/99 Matthew 5: 39-42
Love is an action. It is what we do. It is also a response that we can make to those who hurt us. Their actions must not shape or mold us. God is shaping us into the image of the Lord Jesus Christ. My sin broke His heart. He went to the Cross-to pay the price for my sin. He paid the price for your sin too.

5/2/99 Matthew 6:3-4
We are living our lives before a watching Lord. He is with us. He sees everything we do. He knows the motive of our hearts. My good deeds are recognized by the Lord. He will never forget them. When I function for any reason other than to please God, I am off course. When I find myself off course, I repent and change the way I am doing things. This refreshes my heart and gives me a rich sense of the presence of God. God is pleased when I repent and turn to Him.

5/3/99 Mathew 6:19-20
Tithe for the Lord says so. Tithing enables us to trust God. It is an action that we take that declares God’s control of us. This is the beginning point. When I struggle with the real issues in my life and work together with the Lord on them I grow. As I grow I learn to give of my resources. Giving begins after tithing for tithing is required. Generally, the graciousness of my giving is an indication of the depth of my relationship with the Lord.

5/4/99 Luke 6:38
I want to open up the windows of heaven that God might give me all that He wants me to have. I find that giving is a solution to my loneliness. My sense of self worth that generally runs low is bolstered by more giving. I experience healed hurts as I give more. The more I give the more I am healed. The more I give the less I focus on getting. The more I give the richer I become. Giving is Godly. The more I give the closer I feel to God.

5/5/99 Matthew 6:32-33
Yesterday is gone. It hurts me but it is still gone. The future never comes. Each night when I go to sleep yearning for tomorrow to come, I get up and it is still today. I cannot survive for eternity until I trust God for today. Today is the time of salvation. Today is the time of healing. Today is the moment of service. Everything I will do this side of eternity will be done in the present. Today I will follow the Lord.

5/6/99 2 Corinthians 9:7-8
God gives us all that we have. My giving evidences my trust in the Lord and my willingness to be directed by Him. The Lord is on my side. He wants me to be blessed. He seeks for my best good. Help me Father to give with the right attitude. Bless the name of the Lord.

5/7/99 2 Corinthians 9:10
I will become like the things I do. If I act like the person I would like to be then that is the person I will become like. I want to be an encourager, so every chance I get I encourage someone. Everybody needs a kind word. God has a kind word for you, I love you so much that while you were not mine I suffered and died for you. I love you so much that while you were living for yourself I continued to do things for your best good. I want to be like Jesus. He loves me and He loves you.

5/8/99 Psalm 9:1
Thank you Lord for the breath of life. Thank you taking care of me while I slept. Thank you Lord for saving me. Thank you for always being there at the exact right moment for me. Thank you Lord for you are indeed wonderful. Bless the name of the Lord.

5/9/9 Psalm 18:1-3
I find my strength in the Lord. Whatever I need God is able to provide it. The Lord cannot be moved. He is my rock. No enemy can overrun me. The Lord is my fortress. The Lord is equipped to stand between any harm and me. He is my shield. He is mighty. He is my savior. In every instance the Lord provides what I need to face the day.

5/10/99 Psalm 40 : 1-3
Wait upon the Lord is not an option in the cafeteria line of life. I can wait upon God or fail. His Word says that in my own strength I can do nothing. In Christ I can do all things. Waiting upon the Lord is a sure sign of spiritual maturity and required to succeed. I must admit, sometimes it looks so easy to do things on my own but then I remind myself, wait upon the Lord.

5/11/99 Deuteronomy 7: 7-8
God is sovereign. I am who God created me to be. When I get happy with bending the knee to God I will be on the right road for glorifying Him in my life. I am worthy and loved. God created me different than any other person. His plan for my life is unique and useful in building His kingdom. Serve the Lord with gladness.

5/12/99 Psalm 139: 23-24
My focus is on me. I struggle to change it and yet continually fail. God’s focus is on me. He wants me to change my focus to him. I can trust God to do what is in my best interest. I can have confidence that the Lord is in control. The Father is concerned about every thing that happens to me. He loves me and wants me to learn to love him. You and I need help to grow in our love for God. Jesus is the one that will give us that help. Thank you Lord for staying with me through all my sin. Help me Jesus to change.

5/13/99 Proverbs 20:27
Contemplation and meditation are required for a growing and vibrant Christian faith. I cannot count the times that the Lord has touched that sin-strain in me when I knelt before Him piously praying. I am asking for things but the Lord’s response is about my character. It’s character that counts. I have heard Him say this many times and I seem to still be struggling with learning this lesson. Character is what we think. It comes out when we think no one is looking. God wants to remake our character so that we act like His darling son Jesus.

5/14/99 Hebrew 4:13-14
I need Jesus. Everything I have ever done and will do comes under the scrutiny of the Lord God. You need Jesus. Everything you have ever done and will do comes under the scrutiny of the Lord God. We are all sinners. We were dead in our trespasses and sin but have been made alive in Jesus Christ. Praise God for our salvation. Thank you Jesus for giving us a pure and clean relationship with the Father. Thank you Lord. Thank you.

5/15/99 Job 28:17-18
We labor ever day to make ends meet. We struggle hard to make sense of the things that buffet us in life. We use time payment plans to get what we want right now. To many people the horizon of life seems to be endless until one day the end comes. They never see beyond the day to day grind of life. Everyone needs the Lord. When we see our sin and bend the knee to Jesus we have acquired wisdom. Every time we put God first we grow in wisdom. Wisdom is found in following the Lord.

5/16/99 Job28: 20, 23,&28
Today, knowledge is plentiful but wisdom is scarce. Only a fool thinks he knows it all. Only a person without understanding denies the claims of Jesus. When we come to Christ and ask forgiveness for our sin we begin a relationship with the Lord. He knows all things. As we develop reverence and awe for our wonderful Lord He gives us wisdom to live our life. In Christ we have everything we need to be successful. As we learn to obey the Lord we grow in wisdom. Trust in God. The Lord will make you wise.

5/17/99 Psalm 90:12
Time wasters are destroying us. We must discipline our hearts and lives to grow in grace and in the fullness of the Lord Jesus Christ. We should pay extra attention to what we are doing with our time at night. An early devotional time is better than as the last thing of the day. If you have set your heart to change your life, extended periods of time in the Word of God are essential. Our relationship with the Lord grows by quantity time and quality time. It takes time to become like Jesus. For some of us it takes a lot more time.

5/18/99 Psalm 111:10
God loves obedience more than sacrifice. Every time I say no to temptation, the darkness is pushed back a little farther. Every time I pray, I am destroying darkness. We are in a real war. What we do and say counts. When I truly know who God is I can come to grips with who I am. Serve God. Love each other.

5/19/99 Proverbs 1:7
Knowledge is all around us but wisdom is scarce. We are called to honor and respect God. Because we know Him and His greatness we will live in awe of His power. We will be obedient to His Word. Our lives will be a reflection of His control of us and love for us. Trust in God. He will make you truly wise.

5/20/99 Proverbs 2:2-5
Wisdom begins with God. Knowledge is changeable but wisdom is eternal. We are called to seek wisdom. This encourages us to read God’s Word. This call simply states that without a growing relationship with God we will not be wise. When we are sincere and persistent in our search for wisdom, the Lord will bless our efforts.

5/21/99 Proverbs 2:6-8
God doesn’t call the equipped. God equips the called. We come to the Lord to learn. We seek His wisdom so that we can build Godly lives and accomplish His will for our lives. He knows what we need to know. When we ask Him, He will give us good advice.

5/22/99 Proverbs 3:7-8
Life is fast. We are tempted every day to give into to the fast paced life that the world leads. We will lose if we ignore the Lord. I am called to constantly examine my values and priorities. God intends for me to follow Him. Evil intends for me to follow self. I am the one that makes the choice of which one I will follow. Choose God.

5/23/99 Proverbs 3:21-26
God’s Word says we live next to death with the full confidence that the Lord is in control. I am called to live my life wisely. This includes good planning and careful attention to the details of daily life. When I mess up, God will help me to straighten out the mess. I can live each day confident that the Lord will deal with me with my best interests at heart. God is good, all the time.

5/24/99 Luke 7:32-35
Those who can do but those who can’t criticize. We must be careful about the way we live. We are not responsible for judging or condemning Christians who serve the Lord. I am called to pay attention to the way that I live.

5/25/99 1 Corinthians 1: 20-21
The Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ still sounds foolish to many. The world worships power, influence and wealth. Jesus says whosoever will may come. To the world this is foolish. To us it is a message of love and value. I count not because of who I am but because of whose I am. Jesus is Lord and I belong to Him.

5/26/99 1 Corinthians 1: 23-25
Death seems to be the end of the road to the unsaved. When we are saved we no longer suffer from the fear of the unknown. Our destination is sure. The power of God raised Jesus from the dead. His precious Word tells us that this same power that raised Jesus will save us from eternal death to eternal life. We will be with the Lord forever.

5/27/99 Ephesians 1: 9-10
The world is a cold, hard place. One day Christ will return. When he does, he will unite all people into one group. God’s children will bow to Christ as Lord and go to be with Him in eternity. God’s enemies, the unsaved, will bow to Christ as Lord and be cast into eternal perdition. Jesus is coming back soon.

5/28/99 Ephesians 1:11
God is sovereign. He is in control. If your life is chaotic, cling to the fact that Jesus is Lord of all. Satan cannot destroy you. You are a child of God and loved by the Father. Christ is all and in all and you have not been forgotten.

5/29/99 Colossians 1:28-29
We belong to the Lord. We are His ambassadors. When we grow in Christ we simply tell others what God is doing in us. Our responsibility is to truthfully share what the Lord has done in our life. The problem for too many Christians is that they aren’t growing and have nothing to share. When the Lord speaks to you, you will tell everybody what God has done.

5/30/99 James 1:5-6
When we have faith, we simply believe that we are valuable to the Lord. We struggle with our fears and seek to understand God. We cannot understand God; we can only serve Him and trust that He will tell us the right things to do. He loves each one of us. As His child we can be confident that God will do the right thing. Faith is living in such a way that I evidence this confidence in what I say and do.

5/31/99 James 3:17
The first commandment is to love the Lord with all my heart and soul. The second commandment is to love thy neighbor as thyself. It doesn’t say that our neighbor is lovable. God loves me with a complete understanding of all my sin. He loves me because He chooses to love me. Love is an action. I must choose to love to fulfill the commandments of the Lord.
